  • Patent number: 4349280
Abstract: A continuously operating mixer for loose or flowable material. The mixer includes a cylindrical mixing drum, a shaft which rotates in the drum and is provided with mixing instruments, a feeding or supply device with an inlet chute, and structure to deflect or reverse the incoming material to be mixed in the direction of the axis of the mixing drum, which in an end region thereof has a mixed material discharge. A nozzle-like air inlet channel, which conveys a compressed air flow, opens into the lower region of the inlet chute; an injection channel is connected to the air inlet channel and is directed toward the inlet opening of the mixing drum; this injection channel is flow-connected with an air suction channel which faces away from the inlet opening of the mixing drum; and these channels are consecutively subjected to the air flow of at least one blower.

  • Patent number: 4236677
Abstract: An apparatus and process is disclosed for treating bulk material in batches in a container having a revolving shovel mechanism rotatably mounted therein and ball-like striking elements moved by the shovel mechanism, wherein heat is supplied to or removed from the bulk material and/or the bulk material is dried and the striking elements are added to the bulk material for the duration of the treatment. The ball-like striking elements having a substantially higher specific gravity than the bulk material and a diameter of at least twice the smallest distance between the shovel tools of the shovel mechanism and the container wall. The shovel tools each having a forwardly extending portion which is curved. The curved portion imparts a resultant of tangential and radial motions to the ball striking elements when contacted thereby.

  • Patent number: 4143975
Abstract: An apparatus for applying adhesive to fibrous material in which a generally horizontal cylindrical member is provided having an inlet in the top near one end and an outlet in the bottom near the other end. A shaft is rotatable on the axis of the cylindrical member and has radially extending tools thereon angularly spaced from one another and disposed in a substantially helical path along the shaft. The tools nearest the inlet have a passage means therein through which adhesive is supplied to fibrous material introduced into the inlet while the others of the tools admix the adhesive with the fibrous material.

  • Patent number: 4117223
Abstract: The present invention is related to a new process for producing cellulose C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl ethers by subjecting cellulose to reaction with an alkali metal hydroxide and subjecting the resulting alkali metal salt of cellulose to reaction with an alkyl halide wherein the alkyl group contains 1 to 4 carbon atoms. The new process is characterized by subjecting 1 part by weight of cellulose to reaction with 0.5 to 4 parts by weight of the alkyl halide in a positive mixer having a fast-running mixing appliance and a container with adjustable internal pressure and cooling of the internal container wall, adding the alkali metal hydroxide in a concentrated aqueous solution or in a substantially water-free and finely divided state, and adjusting the pressure in the reaction vessel with cooling in such a way that the temperature of the reaction mixture remains in the range of from 15.degree. to 40.degree. C., and raising the temperature of the reaction mixture after termination of the alkalization to from 50.

  • Patent number: 4062646
Abstract: Two-stage process for sterilizing loose material, such as flour, cocoa, feedstuffs, fillers for cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, and mould cultures, by means of sterilizing agents, such as superheated steam. In the first stage the loose material is vigorously mixed with the sterilizing agent by means of a mechanical agitator, while being brought to the sterilization temperature. In the second stage the loose material is allowed to remain virtually stationary for a predetermined length of time at the sterilization temperature.

  • Patent number: 4026686
Abstract: A vacuum filter for separating solid particles from gaseous materials which contain or consist of condensible substances comprising at least one filter tube, through the walls of which the gaseous material flows, means for heating, substantially uniformly, the entire filter surface of the filter tubes by radiant heat, whereby the temperature of the gaseous material can be sustained above the dew point of the condensible substances in the region of the filter.

  • Patent number: 4015830
Abstract: An apparatus for applying glue to chips, fibers and the like of wood, bagasse and other cellulose containing substances, which comprises a substantially cylindrical mixing chamber in which a shaft rotates equipped with radially extending mixing and/or glue applying tools. These tools immerse with their head region partly into a ring of chip material rotating at a relatively high speed. The glue applying tools comprises a glue conveying passage which in the lower region of the glue applying tools communicates with a glue feeding conduit associated with the driving shaft and in its upper region has a glue exit opening. The upper section of the glue applying tool has a glue discharge passage extending in a direction opposite to the direction of rotation of the glue applying tool. The end region of the glue discharge passage has at least one glue discharge opening.

  • Patent number: 4006706
Abstract: A device for applying glue to chips, fibers or the like particles of cellulose containing substances, such as wood, bagasse, or the like, with an at least approximately cylindrical chamber in which the material to which the glue is to be applied passes through an inlet chute, an inlet zone, a gluing zone following the latter, a post-mixing zone, and an outlet in the form of a ring of material rotating along the cylindrical wall of the chamber, and in which on a shaft extending through the chamber, in the inlet zone there are arranged conveying tools which are provided with a vane or paddle-shaped working surface. Tools are arranged in the gluing zone and post-mixing zone for applying glue to and mixing the material.
