Publication number: 20210137231Abstract: A method for manufacturing a case for a mobile device with a screen, in which the case has a band arranged to surround the edge of the device, includes supplying a band having a layer of flexible polymer; and in either an insert molding process or in a dual injection process, applying damping material on the layer of the flexible polymer of the band. The damping material has a plurality of integrally formed protrusions projecting inwardly from a substantial portion of the inner periphery of the band to engage with the device. The protrusions are arranged such that, in use there is substantially no contact between the band and the device other than through the protrusion. Further, the protrusions are provided at least in the corner regions of the case.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 21, 2021Publication date: May 13, 2021Inventors: Jason ROBERTS, Wilhelm MARSCHALL, Benjamin THORPE

Publication number: 20170303653Abstract: A method of manufacturing a case for a mobile electronic device is provided for cases having a generally rectangular shape, two long side walls extending substantially parallel to another, and two short end walls extending substantially parallel to one another between the long side walls. The method includes molding a case portion of a first material of a first hardness forming a substantial portion of the side walls and end walls, and a second material of a second hardness extending around the inner periphery of the first material wherein the first hardness is greater than the second hardness, presenting a strip to an outer periphery of the case portion, applying heat and pressure to a backing layer, and removing the backing strip from which the foil has been removed. The present method is advantageous in that it provides a case with a durable and chemically resistive finish.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 20, 2016Publication date: October 26, 2017Inventors: Jason ROBERTS, Wilhelm MARSCHALL, Benjamin THORPE

Publication number: 20170290182Abstract: A screen protector (5) for a mobile electronic device with a touch screen. The screen protector comprises a flat laminated film comprising a layer (2) of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bonded to one face of a layer (3) of thermoplastic urethane (TPU) and a layer (4) of adhesive on the opposite side of the TPU layer. The PET layer is less than 50 ?m thick and wherein the adhesive layer provides a tack force of greater than 5 g/cm2. The relatively thin layer of PET with the relatively high tack force adhesive provides a screen protector particularly suited to a device with a curved screen.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 4, 2017Publication date: October 5, 2017Inventors: Jason ROBERTS, Wilhelm MARSCHALL, Benjamin THORPE

Publication number: 20170220065Abstract: A case for a laptop computer, the case comprising upper and lower shells which are entirely separate from one another. Each shell comprises an outer layer of a first injection moulded polymer and an inner liner of a second injection moulded polymer softer than the first. Each shell defines a cavity having a back surface and upstanding side walls, the cavity being arranged to receive, in use, one half of the laptop computer. The second polymer comprises a plurality of inwardly extending clips which protrude across the cavity from an edge of the side wall furthest from the back surface to, in use, retain the shell on the laptop half.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 21, 2016Publication date: August 3, 2017Inventors: Jason ROBERTS, Wilhelm MARSCHALL, Benjamin THORPE

Publication number: 20160359517Abstract: A case is provided for a portable Radio Frequency (RF) communications device in which the portable RF communications device has an RF antenna arrangement internal to or integrated with an outer housing, the outer housing having an outer surface having a first portion, dielectric characteristics adjacent to which having a relatively low effect on a frequency characteristic of the RF antenna arrangement; and a second portion, dielectric characteristics adjacent to which having a relatively high effect on the frequency characteristic of the RF antenna arrangement. The case has a base, dimensioned to fit a back of the RF communications device; and a plurality of walls, extending from the base and dimensioned to fit corresponding walls of the RF communications device. The case is configured to cover part of the first portion so as to cause a dielectric parameter adjacent a part of the first portion to be relatively high.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 18, 2016Publication date: December 8, 2016Inventors: Jason Lloyd ROBERTS, Wilhelm MARSCHALL, Benjamin Richard THORPE

Publication number: 20160352875Abstract: A case is provided for a portable Radio Frequency (RF) communications device having an RF antenna. The case includes a base and a plurality of walls, extending from the base. The base and the plurality of walls have requisite dimensions to receive a portable Radio (RF) having an outer surface with a first portion and a second portion. First dielectric characteristics adjacent to the first portion having a relatively low effect on a frequency characteristic of an RF antenna arrangement and second dielectric characteristics adjacent to the second portion having a relatively high effect on the frequency characteristic of the RF antenna arrangement. When the communications device is disposed in the case, the case is adapted to cover part of the first portion of the communications device so as to cause a dielectric parameter adjacent a part of the first portion of the communications device to be relatively high, and a dielectric parameter adjacent the second portion to be relatively low.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 23, 2016Publication date: December 1, 2016Inventors: Jason Lloyd ROBERTS, Wilhelm MARSCHALL, Benjamin Richard THORPE
