Patent number: 5153140Abstract: A process for controlling and optimizing chemical industrial processes for the preparation of dyes, fluorescent whitening agents and their intermediates, which process comprises controlling and optimizing those processes by differential analysis of the UV/VIS absorption spectra of at least one starting compound and of at least one reaction product. The advantage of this process is that the actual state of a process can be constantly measured, assessed, and used for feed-back and feed-forward control.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 1990Date of Patent: October 6, 1992Assignee: Ciba-Geigy CorporationInventors: Horst Langfeld, Roland Minges, Claudio Puebla, Wilhelm Schmidt

Patent number: 5011587Abstract: An apparatus for the detection of chemical equalization processes in aqueous solutions, in particular for the determination of pH values and/or redox potentials, is described. The apparatus, a so-called interchangeable probe, includes an essentially cylindrical probe body, with a calibrating chamber and with an immersion pipe axially displaceable in a bore of the probe body and having at its front end a protective cylinder, the area adjacent to the immersion pipe being perforated in a basket-like manner. An electrode is set into the immersion pipe with the head of the electrode being located within the basket like perforated area of the protective cylinder. An annular gap between the immersion pipe and the inner wall of the probe body is sealed by at least three gaskets, located on the inner wall of the probe body.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 1990Date of Patent: April 30, 1991Assignee: Ciba-Geigy CorporationInventor: Wilhelm Schmidt

Patent number: 4673249Abstract: Two prismatic wedges of a prismatic compensator are rotated in opposite directions by the same angular quantity for adjusting the prismatic effect with the aid of a crossed-over pull wire. The pull wire is changed in direction by means of two rollers. The pull wire encloses the fittings under pulling tension so as to be free of slippage and free of play.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1985Date of Patent: June 16, 1987Assignee: Carl-Zeiss-StiftungInventors: Horst Schneider, Wilhelm Schmidt, Erwin Daniels

Patent number: 4529264Abstract: A device for sharp-edge uniform illumination of an observation field lying in a preselectable plane is adapted to utilize light from a remote source, via a flexible fiber-optic connection having a glass-rod termination for producing a uniformly illuminated light-exit surface. The glass rod is insertably connected to the device via clamping mechanism (9, 10) in such manner that its light-radiating surface is immediately adjacent to a diaphragm (7). In front of the diaphragm (7), a collector (2, 3) is fixedly positioned, to focus the diaphragm as a real image in the observation plane. The diaphragm (7) (together with the glass rod) is displaceable axially with respect to the collector (2, 3), thus enabling sharp adjustment for different distances from the observation plane.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 1983Date of Patent: July 16, 1985Assignee: Carl-Zeiss-Stiftung, Heidenheum/BrenzInventors: Wilhelm Schmidt, Karl Grunvogel, Lothar Rubl

Patent number: 4353424Abstract: A vehicle for removing slash from steep logging slopes includes an anti-skid propulsion system characterized by a power winch for reeling in an uphill-anchored cable and a pair of crawler tracks driven in synchronization with the winch. The vehicle has an articulating tail boom for working against the cable to assist in maneuvering the vehicle along the slope and stabilizing the vehicle during slash gathering operations. A knuckle boom which is extendable from the vehicle for gathering slash within a relatively large area around the vehicle and preparing the soil for planting. A slide mechanism is disposed at the end of the knuckle boom for selectively varying the overall length of the boom. The slide mechanism includes a pair of claws which can be operated as a grapple for gathering slash or as a rake for scarifying the forest soil. The slide mechanism can be tilted for optimum orientation of the claws during raking.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 1980Date of Patent: October 12, 1982Inventors: Ray B. Schenck, Wilhelm Schmidt

Patent number: 4264121Abstract: The invention contemplates a binocular-telescope construction wherein no precision optical alignment or realignment procedures are needed within the telescope tubes, once the telescope tubes are assembled to their connecting bridge structure. The nature of the connecting bridge structure is such as to provide a range of universal action in the connection of each telescope tube to the bridge structure so that optical-axis parallelism can be mechanically effected and clamped at the universal connections without operating upon any of the individual optical elements within the telescope tube. The universal action and clamping is without prejudice to the single-articulated or double-articulated nature and action of the connecting bridge, for interpupilary-distance accommodation.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 1979Date of Patent: April 28, 1981Assignee: Carl Zeiss-StiftungInventors: Wilhelm Schmidt, Karl Grunvogel

Patent number: 4264122Abstract: The invention contemplates a binocular observation instrument wherein two viewing tubes are pivotally connected for articulation about a first axis to adjust for interpupilary distance and wherein provision is made for further articulation about a second axis to enable adjustment of the angle between the respective optical axes of the two viewing tubes.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 1979Date of Patent: April 28, 1981Assignee: Carl Zeiss-StiftungInventors: Wilhelm Schmidt, Karl Grunvogel

Patent number: 4182791Abstract: A composite body having a portion of a thermosetting material and a portion of a thermoplastics material is formed by including a layer of fabric having a serrated surface between the two portions as a connecting means. The fabric with its serrated surface facing outwards is applied to an area of a thermosetting material after which a thermoplastics material in particulate form is intimately mixed into the serrations of the fabric. The composite body, such as a weaving shuttle, is then pressed, fused and cured.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 1978Date of Patent: January 8, 1980Inventors: Otto Meyering, Wilhelm Schmidt

Patent number: 4073364Abstract: An articulated frame log skidder having front and rear wheeled chassis separated by an oscillating suspension which allows the front chassis to rotate with respect to the rear chassis. The axis of rotation between the front and rear chassis is inclined upwardly toward the front of the skidder so that it passes above the center of gravity of the front chassis. Thus, as an excessive force exerted on a rear chassis winch lifts the front wheels above the vehicle-supporting surface, the front chassis remains in a stable condition with its center of gravity beneath the axis of rotation. A horizontal force applied to one of the wheels when the wheel strikes an obstruction is transformed by the inclined axis of rotation into a rotational moment about the axis which lifts the wheel over the obstruction.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 1975Date of Patent: February 14, 1978Assignee: Garrett-Weldco Industries, Inc.Inventor: Wilhelm Schmidt

Patent number: 3990483Abstract: A weaving shuttle having a metal or wood winding core is shown. The core is wrapped with alternating hardened layers of fabric soaked with plastic, and plywood. Preferably, the direction of the warp threads in the fabric layers alternate between running parallel to the longitudinal axis of the weaving shuttle and perpendicular thereto, except for the outermost layers where only fabric course sheets are present in which the warp threads run parallel to the longitudinal axis of the shuttle.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 1976Date of Patent: November 9, 1976Assignee: Gebr. SchmeingInventors: Otto Meyering, Wilhelm Schmidt
