Patent number: 4672733Abstract: A method of making a shaft seal ring starts with a tube, optionally provided on its outside and/or inside with hydrodynamically-acting return elements, as may be cut from a hollow cylinder. The tube is axially slipped along a form with a continuously increasing diameter until its leading or lower end is shaped into a flange in the radial direction. The flange may be simultaneously joined to a reinforcing ring.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 1985Date of Patent: June 16, 1987Assignee: Firma Carl FeudenbergInventor: Wilhelm Schmitt

Patent number: 4596394Abstract: A cartridge seal has concentric outer and inner rings which snap together relatively rotatably to form the cartridge. Each ring has a generally L-shaped, inner axial profile with generally axial and radial legs thereof oppositely disposed. A sealing lip on the radial leg of the outer ring sealingly bears against an abutment surface on the radial leg of the inner ring to accommodate radial excursions during relative rotation therebetween. At least the radial leg of the inner ring is made of a material, for example metal, which conducts heat well. Frictional heat of the sealing lip against the abutment upon relative rotation is thus conducted to the surface of the radial leg of the inner ring opposite the abutment surface for dissipation. Heat dissipation is further improved with depressions in the opposite surface for expanding its surface area and, if the depressions are radial grooves, circulating a fluid medium wetting the surface to carry away the dissipated heat.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 1985Date of Patent: June 24, 1986Assignee: Firma Carl FreudenbergInventor: Wilhelm Schmitt

Patent number: 4436317Abstract: A cassette seal comprising a U-ring having legs projecting in the direction of a rotating machine part, a counterring connected to the rotating machine part, and at least one sealing lip fabricated from an elastomer material which rests under pretension against the running surface of the counterring extending in the axial direction thereby forming a seal. The counterring has the shape of a hollow cylinder and is free of unrelieved internal stresses. The counterring is associated with the legs of the U-ring with a small axial clearance on both sides whereby the counterring and the U-shaped ring enclose a hollow space having substantially rectangular boundaries. The sealing lip is mounted on the U-ring and extends into the hollow space formed by the counterring and the U-shaped ring.Type: GrantFiled: January 7, 1983Date of Patent: March 13, 1984Assignee: Firma Carl FreudenbergInventor: Wilhelm Schmitt

Patent number: 4399347Abstract: A flexible device which can be detachably mounted on a window, such as a vehicle window, in order to prevent icing or fogging. The device is a semi-flexible sheet of layered materials having a length and width substantially coterminus with the window and having arranged at intervals along its two dimensions, holders which are used to detachably mount the device on the window. The sheet materials include a rather stiff supporting layer which acts as a backing surface of the sheet and a heat reflecting layer on the sheet side which faces the window when mounted. Optional layers include an insulating layer, a decorative layer, a silicone rubber electrically conductive layer and braided copper electrode strips for connecting the conductive layer to an electric source and causing the generation of heat from the conductive layer. The holders are of a length which will position the sheet a distance of about 5 to 15 mm away from the window.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 1981Date of Patent: August 16, 1983Assignee: Firma Carl FreudenbergInventor: Wilhelm Schmitt

Patent number: 4324097Abstract: In a one way non-return valve comprising a cylindrical duct, a cone in said duct with its apex pointing in the direction of flow and provided with a plurality of apertures, and a membrane lying on the downstream surface of the cone and clamped at the outer circumference, the membrane having a central aperture, the improvement which comprises employing a cone having an apex angle of about 140.degree. to 160.degree., the membrane comprising a disk of elastomeric material having a central circular aperture which engages the hollow cone under bias. Advantageously the apertures in the cone are a series of concentrically disposed, round or long-oval apertures, the hollow cone has an apex angle of about 154.degree. and the total area of the apertures in the cone is about twice as great as the area of the aperture in the membrane.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 1980Date of Patent: April 13, 1982Assignee: Firma Carl FreudenbergInventors: Wilhelm Schmitt, Toyotake Taniguchi

Patent number: 4161976Abstract: Anti-skid tire chain comprises a network positionable during use in the region of the tire tread. The network includes two parallel chains extendable along opposite sides of the tread, a plurality of rings interconnected into each chain for guiding same and a plurality of straps. Each strap interconnects one ring from one chain with one ring from the other chain and each crosses over another strap. At least one post is connected to a strap in the region of each intersection and is composed of synthetic material.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 1977Date of Patent: July 24, 1979Assignee: Firma Carl FreudenbergInventors: Wilhelm Schmitt, Herbert Schumacher

Patent number: 4156589Abstract: An equalizing plate for use in a vulcanizing press or the like comprises a base plate, a top plate and a low-melting point metal alloy hermetically sealed therebetween. The two plates are flexibly joined at their periphery and at least one of the plates has a membrane-like transition in the outer periphery thereof having at least one single U-shaped profile whose axis of symmetry is perpendicular to the surface of the equalizing plate.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 1978Date of Patent: May 29, 1979Assignee: Firma Carl FreudenbergInventors: Wilhelm Schmitt, Rolf Halblaub

Patent number: 4118644Abstract: An electrical machine, such as a motor or generator, with a rotor is manufactured by first deep drawing the housing as two separate members from sheet metal, such as steel sheet metal. As a result of the deep drawing, each housing member is provided with a bearing seating surface for the rotor bearing and at least one housing member is provided with a shoulder for the stator also as a result of the deep drawing. The parts of the machine are assembled by a press fit between the rotor bearings and the respective bearing seating surface and preferably also between the stator and at least one housing member. The housing members are secured to each other either by a press fit or by radially outwardly extending ears or lugs produced by said deep drawing.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1976Date of Patent: October 3, 1978Assignee: Firma Schulte Elektrotechnik KGInventors: Siegfried Schulte, Wilhelm Schmitt
