  • Patent number: 7454757
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of processing information with a system comprising at least two processing devices coupled to a network, in which method a job for processing information is defined by a user of the system, whereafter in respect of processing devices belonging to a predetermined set selected from the at least two processing devices, a check is automatically made whether the same are suitable for performing the job, whereafter each processing device of the set is presented to the user via presentation means, wherein for each of said processing devices an indication is given whether the same is suitable for performing the job, whereafter a processing device belonging to the set is selected, and at least a part of the job is transmitted to the selected processing device. The invention also relates to a system for processing information suitable for applying this method and a computer program element for an information processing system to perform this method.

  • Patent number: 7154624
Abstract: A system for carrying out jobs on documents is disclosed. The system includes a scanner, a printer and a controller. The controller comprises client modules for receiving jobs, a splitter module for splitting a job in a number of subjobs, worker modules for carrying out subjobs, and a central storage area. A document is stored according to a document model in the central storage area. According to the document model a state is assigned to the document. A state being made up by values of atributes. For carrying out a job, a document has to be brought from a source state to a target state. In a particular embodiment, splitting of a job is carried out by identifying attributes that have different values in the source state and the target state and selecting worker modules that are able to act on these attributes.

  • Patent number: 6781593
Abstract: Quantization of the colors in a digital image within a color space is achieved by successively dividing the colour space into a number of compartments in a number of steps, each compartment containing a subset of the colors of the image. Each step comprises: determining the variance in a predetermined number of directions, of the set of colors in a compartment, the variance being calculated by determining a covariance matrix which describes the colors of the set of colors in the compartment and calculating from the values of the variance of the set in the relevant directions, and dividing the compartment into two new compartments on the basis of the largest variance found. Such a method is further refined by subjecting the resulting sets of colors to a predetermined test and, on the basis of the results of that test, recombining sets, and also the compartments corresponding to the recombined sets.
