  • Patent number: 5296901
Abstract: An improved toner cartridge and contact which pertains to the recycling of the cartridge is disclosed by providing an alternate or additional way of completing the electrical bias connection to the magnetic feed roller by the addition of a simple contact, which is attached to a doctor blade, having a finger extending to ride onto the surface of the magnetic roller. This contact can be attached at either end, or both ends, of the doctor blade thereby connecting the doctor blade to the feed roller, the contact being held in place by the hold-down screws of the doctor blade.

  • Patent number: 5288152
Abstract: A replacement bearing is provided for use in rebuilding the nominally disposable toner cartridges that are commonly used in popularly priced electrostatic printers and copiers. When the bearing is rotated into its final position about the shaft of a toner roller, an oversize portion of the bearing is forced into a position that ensures that both the bearing retainer and the toner roller are restrained in a precise alignment. A slot, that has a predetermined gap when installed, is preferably provided in the bearing, and a decrease of the width of this gap is indicative of bearing wear. The precise alignment and wear indication means that are provided by the new bearing allow an operator to rebuild a toner cartridge that had been demonstrating the "right side problem", and to subsequently monitor the wear of a replacement bearing so as to prevent recurrence of copy degradation.

  • Patent number: 5258814
Abstract: A composite seal for preventing leakage of dry toner material from a toner hopper of a toner cartridge is made by interposing a resilient material between two generally smooth elongated rectangular sheets that have slightly different widths. This construction of the seal allows it to be pushed into thin entry slots, but also to expand to fill and seal a pre-existing channel between the toner hopper and the rest of the cartridge. The seal is most advantageously inserted into the cartridge by using a tool formed from two thin sheets of material that have curved ends.
