  • Patent number: 8097760
Abstract: This invention provides a convenient method for converting oximes into enamides. The process does not require the use of metallic reagents. Accordingly, it produces the desired compounds without the concomitant production of a large volume of metallic waste. The enamides are useful precursors to amides and amines. The invention provides a process to convert a prochiral enamide into the corresponding chiral amide. In an exemplary process, a chiral amino center is introduced during hydrogenation through the use of a chiral hydrogenation catalyst. In selected embodiments, the invention provides methods of preparing amides and amines that include the 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-N-alkyl-1-naphthalenamine or 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-1-naphthalenamine substructure.

  • Patent number: 8099399
Abstract: Whether a change in workload of a database system has occurred can be determined. Investigative queries are formulated. Each investigative query is adapted to test a different resource or a different combination of resources of the database system. The investigative queries are run when the database system is in an unloaded state to acquire unloaded performance metrics. The investigative queries are run when the database system is in a loaded state to acquire loaded performance metrics. Whether executing a current workload of the database system, using a current configuration of the database system, will likely result in a problem developing at a later point in time can also be determined. Simultaneously with actual execution of the current workload on the database system using the current configuration, a simulation of execution of the current workload using the current configuration is performed. The simulation is performed more quickly than the actual execution.

  • Patent number: 8096615
Abstract: A chair has a supporting frame, a seat portion, a back portion, and a recline mechanism. The mechanism moves the seat portion upon a reclining action of the back portion. The mechanism has a rear deformable member and a front deformable member operatively connecting the seat portion and the supporting frame. The recline mechanism also has a lower deformable member operatively connecting a lower part of the back portion and the supporting frame, and a puller member above the lower deformable member. The recline mechanism is configured such that as the back portion is reclined, the lower deformable member deforms and the puller member applies a rearward pulling action which causes the seat portion to move and the front and rear deformable members to deform.

  • Publication number: 20120005830
Abstract: The present invention is a two-ply convertible pillow blanket device with an internal pocket. The device can be used as a traditional blanket. Alternatively, if the user desires to use the device as a pillow, he or she simply unfastens the internal pocket, folds down the blanket toward the internal pocket, inverts and refastens the internal pocket with the folded portion of the blanket inside thereby forming the pillow. When the opening of the internal pocket is refastened it forms a pillow which is nearly identical to a traditional pillow.

  • Publication number: 20120000246
Abstract: A process for the recovery of heavier hydrocarbons from a liquefied natural gas (LNG) stream and a hydrocarbon gas stream is disclosed. The LNG feed stream is heated to vaporize at least part of it, then expanded and supplied to a fractionation column at a first mid-column feed position. The gas stream is expanded and cooled, then supplied to the column at a second mid-column feed position. A distillation vapor stream is withdrawn from the fractionation column below the mid-column feed positions and directed in heat exchange relation with the LNG feed stream, cooling the distillation vapor stream as it supplies at least part of the heating of the LNG feed stream. The distillation vapor stream is cooled sufficiently to condense at least a part of it, forming a condensed stream. At least a portion of the condensed stream is directed to the fractionation column as its top feed.

  • Publication number: 20120001906
Abstract: A system for 3-dimensional animation includes a computer apparatus, a means for display in communication with the computer apparatus, and a means for storage in communication with the computer apparatus. The means for storage is disposed to store data representing a 3D animation, the means for display is disposed to display a representation of the 3D animation, and the computer apparatus is configured to perform a method of 3D animation. The method includes setting an inter-axial distance between logical representations of two cameras, the inter-axial distance being configured to produce a desired 3D effect for a target audience, and creating a stereoscopic frame set representing the 3D animation using the logical representations of the two cameras.

The method includes setting a first inter-axial distance between logical representations of a first set of two cameras, the first inter-axial distance being configured to produce a desired 3D effect for a target audience, setting a second inter-axial distance between logical representations of a second set of two cameras, the second inter-axial distance being based on the first inter-axial distance, setting a multi-rig spacing between the first and second sets of two cameras, the multi-rig spacing begin a value determined to reduce depth distortion effects in the 3D animation, and creating a stereoscopic frame set representing the 3D animation using the logical representations of the first and second sets of two cameras.

  • Patent number: 8090320
Abstract: Circuits and methods are disclosed for compensating for received signal distortion caused by non-linearities in wideband receivers. An exemplary receiver includes a distortion waveform generator configured to approximate non-linear response characteristics of a downconverter circuit used to downconvert the received radio frequency signal. The resulting estimated distortion waveform is filtered, using filter(s) substantially similar to those used for filtering an intermediate frequency signal that includes the desired signal and non-linear distortion products caused by strong interfering signals. The filtered estimated distortion waveform and intermediate frequency signal are sampled, to obtain a sampled distortion signal and a sampled signal of interest. The sampled distortion signal and the sampled signal of interest are divided into a plurality of frequency channels.

  • Patent number: 8090538
Abstract: Well log data is assigned depositional labels by a soft computing method. A model is trained on an expert-interpreted well log by segmenting, assigning fuzzy symbols to the segments, and calculating attribute values for units labeled by the expert. From these values, classifiers are trained for each of a number of depositional types. Finally, a model is developed for translating fuzzy symbols into depositional labels. Once trained, the model is applied to well log data.

  • Publication number: 20110311128
Abstract: A system and method are provided for analyzing 3D digital content to determine whether a watermark is detectable. The watermark may exist in 2D content that is converted to 3D, and in such cases, the survivability of the watermark to the conversion process is evaluated. An anticipated location of the watermark in left and right 3D images may be determined, and the detectability based upon the anticipated location. A report may indicate whether the watermark survived the conversion in one or both images, or neither. The process may be performed for single frames, sequences of single frames, or entire files containing many image frames. Watermark placement may also be proposed for locations in 2D content, 3D content, or both. Watermarks may similarly be placed in the content.
