Abstract: Methods, systems, and techniques for automated provisioning of virtual desktops are provided. Example embodiments provide an Automated Virtual Desktop Provisioning System (“AVDPS”), which enables users to perform self-service provisioning of virtual desktops with little knowledge other than a proper license. The AVDPS is able to accomplish this through the use of pre-configured Blueprints and Templates. The Blueprints fully specify how a particular resource, for example, an application, services, or virtual infrastructure like memory, CPUs, disk space, etc., is to be installed in a user's virtual desktop(s). The Templates provide master images for a virtual infrastructure image instance (e.g., a virtual machine instance). In an example AVDPS, a single virtual infrastructure image instance supports multiple users at one time—avoided need to supply each user with its own virtual machine image and corresponding resources just in order to have a virtual desktop to access resources, for example applications.
