  • Patent number: 10003840
Abstract: Described herein are techniques for streaming digital media content, such as music, video, or television content. In accordance with an embodiment, the system includes support for watch-now functionality. A media play logic at a media device controls playback of media content and advertisements as received from a media server, and can be configured for regular media play, or extended media play. Periodically, for example when input is received from a user to skip to a next media option for playback, the user can be prompted to watch an advertisement, in return for extended media play. Upon receiving an election by the user to watch the advertisement in return for extended media play, the media application plays the advertisement, and configures the media play logic for an extended period of advertisement-free media play.

  • Publication number: 20160247189
Abstract: In accordance with an embodiment, described herein are a system and method for use of dynamic banners for the promotion of events or other information. The system allows for scaling in the management of advertising creatives, by enabling advertisements, promotions, or other information to be generated dynamically in realtime, using a template and set of inputs, for example text, image, voice, or click links. An advertisement server receives advertisement requests from a client, and provides a tag for a dynamic banner, which is sent back to the client; so that a dynamic creative service, which receives a tag for use with a particular event, for example a concert, can determine creative assets to be returned to the client, which are then rendered within the dynamic banner in the form of a promotion.

  • Publication number: 20160189232
Abstract: Described herein are techniques for streaming digital media content, such as music, video, or television content. In accordance with an embodiment, the system includes support for delivery of media content and advertisement or other sponsor-directed content across a connected media environment. Playback can selectively follow a user from one location to another location, or from one media device to another media device, either maintaining a same session or switching sessions depending on the user's location, media device used, and user activity. Playback of advertisement or other sponsor-directed content can be synchronized between different areas of the connected media environment, or between different media devices, for example between a secondary device such as an audio speaker in a particular room, which is being controlled by a primary device such as a smartphone in another room.

  • Publication number: 20150317680
Abstract: Described herein are techniques for streaming digital media content, such as music, video, or television content. In accordance with an embodiment, the system includes support for selection of targeted advertisement or other sponsor-directed content based on a playlist context. A media device enables access by a user to one or more playlists of media content at a media server. Advertisements can be selected for providing to the user, based on one or more characteristics of a playlist, such as the playlist's description, or the playlist being part of an advertisement campaign. For example, a playlist bearing a particular descriptive title can be used to trigger advertisements that may be relevant to that descriptive title. Adding a particular song to a playlist can be used to trigger advertisements that may be relevant to that song.

  • Patent number: 7801941
Abstract: A handheld computer is provided that includes a transport component that receives a request to perform an action from a handheld computer. A router is coupled to the transport component and identifies an action contained in the received request. An executor is coupled to the router and executes the identified action. Additionally, the executor generates a response based on execution of the identified action. The transport component also communicates the response to the handheld computer.

  • Publication number: 20040015811
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for the creation of software applications that enable the interaction between a mobile business user with a wireless device or handset to interact with functions and information stored in a remote networked server. The wireless device may use either a micro-browser application, which supports some known markup language, or a more powerful “smart” or thick client application. The interaction between device and server is facilitated by wireless infrastructure and middleware (which could include the ThinAir Server™). The server supports the storage and retrieval of data either through some direct access method such as Structured Query Language (SQL) or a more complicated programmatic interface. Through the use of a software development kit and specific techniques and methods described, a software developer can create effective, efficient wireless applications which employ the components mentioned above.
