  • Patent number: 6861578
Abstract: A method of protecting a plant or part of a plant from insect or nematode infestation is disclosed herein. The method includes the steps of: inserting into the genome of cells or tissue from a plant a sequence coding for equistatin operably linked to a promoter sequence active in the plant to cause expression of the protein at levels which provide an insect or nematode controlling amount of the protein; and regenerating resistant whole plants from the cells or tissue. Also disclosed is a transgenic plant or its sexual progeny which is resistant to attack by one or more insects or nematodes having digestive cysteine proteases. Also disclosed is an expression vehicle that includes a promotor effective to promote expression of a downstream coding sequence in plant cells, the expression vehicle being effective to express in plant cells insect controlling amounts of equistatin.

  • Patent number: 6780408
Abstract: The present invention provides, inter alia, a B.t. hybrid toxin fragment comprising at its C-terminus domain III of a first Cry protein, or a part of said domain or a protein substantially similar to said domain; and comprising at its N-terminus the N-terminal region of a second Cry protein, or a part of said region or a protein substantially similar to said region.

  • Publication number: 20040093635
Abstract: Genomic sequences encoding Phytophthora infestans resistance proteins are provided herein. Specifically, sequences from potato required for P. infestans resistance have been cloned and sequence provided, together with the encoded amino acid sequence. DNA encoding the amino acid sequence or amino acid sequences showing a significant degree of homology thereto may be introduced into plant cells and the encoded polypeptide expressed, conferring P. infestans resistance on plants comprising such cells and descendants thereof.

  • Patent number: 5932784
Abstract: A recombinant polynucleotide which can be used for obtaining a male-sterile plant comprising an inhibitor gene capable of inhibiting the expression of a target gene encoding MS2 protein or a homologous target gene and a promoter that is active in the tapetum. A method for obtaining male-sterile plants. Cells, fruit, seeds and progeny of male-sterile plants are also described.

  • Patent number: 5736131
Abstract: The present invention provides, inter allia, a B.t. hybrid toxin fragment comprising at its C-terminal domain III of a first Cry protein or a part of the domain or a protein substantially similar to the domain, with the proviso that the N-terminal region of the fragment is the N-terminal region of a second Cry protein or a part of the region or a protein substantially similar to the region.
