  • Patent number: 9766385
Abstract: The invention relates to an illumination device (1) comprising an optical waveguide (2) and a number of (connections for) light sources (3)—especially LEDs—positioned along the waveguide (3). This waveguide has a central axis (4) at a distance r to the surface of the waveguide, said surface comprising a light entrance surface (6) on which the (connections for) light sources are positioned and a curved light exit surface (5), wherein, viewed along the circumference of the curved surface (5), the distance r to a first intersection (8) between the flat surface (6) and the curved surface (5), changes to a second distance of different value at the second intersection (9) between said surfaces. The invention also relates to a luminaire comprising such an illumination device (1). Due to the special design of the waveguide (2), the amount of reflections of light in the light sources is largely reduced and desired shaping of the exiting beam can be realized.

  • Patent number: 9411181
Abstract: The present invention relates to a dual view display device where a display surface is divided into a first and a second sub-section (10a, 10b). A backlighting arrangement is used which provides light with different angular distributions (16a, 16b; 16a?, 16b?) to the different sub-sections. This allows at low cost e.g. in a vehicle the displaying of movies or computer game windows at a part of a display, which part is not visible for the driver of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 9316841
Abstract: A multiview display device displays multiple views having respective viewing angles related to an object to be displayed. The display device includes an optical device for displaying multiple viewing cones. A first cone of the multiple viewing cones has different views so that a different view is observed by a right eye and a left eye of a viewer of the multiview display device. The different views of the first cone have an angular distribution relative to the display device, where sets of image data are provided such that the angular distribution has a first part of adjacent views with increasing viewing angle and a second part of adjacent views with decreasing viewing angle. Further, the angular distribution has a first one of the views in between a maximum view which corresponds to a maximum viewing angle and a minimum view which corresponds to a minimum viewing angle.

  • Patent number: 8770787
Abstract: Proposed is a luminaire (1), comprising light sources (10) and optical elements (20). The light sources (10) are arranged in a first (11) and a second array (12), while the optical elements (20) are arranged in a first (21) and a second section (22). The first ‘light sources' array (11) and the first Optical element’ section (21) form a first group (31), and the second array (12) and the section (22) form a second group (32). The luminaire (1) is characterized in that the optical elements (20) of each group are arranged to have different beam shaping characteristics, and the arrays (11,12) are arranged to be individually addressable. This is especially advantageous in illumination applications where the control of the beam shape is required or desired. Advantageously, the invention provides a luminaire (1) capable of adjusting the beam shape without using an adjustable optical system. Moreover, the control bandwidth of the light sources limits the speed with which the beam shape can be adjusted.

Abstract: An optical arrangement comprising a light guide (101) having a light-entry portion (103) with a light-entry surface (105), a tapering portion (107) with a light reflecting surface, and a light-exit surface (109). The light-entry portion (103) is arranged to guide light from the light-entry surface (105) in a first direction (x) towards the light reflecting surface (H I), the light reflecting surface being arranged in relation to the first direction (x) so that incident light from the light-entry portion (103) is reflected towards the light-exit surface (109). A light transmitting layer (113) is adapted to transmit light diffusively and arranged to cover at least a portion of the light-entry edge surface (105) of the light guide (101). The arrangement is e.g. suitable for use in a LED based luminaire and allows for efficiency and forming of a light beam able to fulfill glare requirements. The arrangement may advantageously be used in a downlighting application.
