  • Patent number: 6226170
Abstract: A thin-film capacitor comprises an electrically insulating substrate which is provided with at least two inner electrodes which are separated from each other by means of the dielectric layer. The capacitor also includes two end contacts which each electroconductively contact one of the inner electrodes. The electroconductive contact takes place via a through-connection which communicates exclusively with the main surface of the inner electrode. By virtue of this measure, it is achieved that the contact resistance between the end contacts and the inner electrodes is relatively low and reproducible. As a result, also the value of the ESR of the thin-film capacitor is low, so that the capacitor can very suitably be used for high-frequency applications.

  • Patent number: 4818210
Abstract: A sintering press for comprising a stack of foils is formed of a lower die, an upper die opposing the lower die and a furnance surrounding the dies. At least one of the two dies is supported at its end face remote from the other die by a spherical bearing surface so that this die can adjust itself by tilting so that the center lines of the two dies are no longer in line with each other. As a result, a uniform pressure distribution is obtained on the stack of foils.

  • Patent number: 4612689
Abstract: A method of manufacturing multilayer ceramic capacitors characterized by the following steps:forming dielectric foils comprising a mixture of an organic binder with an oxidic ceramic powder;stacking these foils alternately with layers of electrically conductive material which function as electrodes;heating the stack to a previously determined temperature below the atmospheric pressure sintering temperature of the oxidic ceramic powder while simultaneously applying a uniaxial pressure in the direction of stacking to form a unit;releasing the pressure and cooling; andsevering the unit into individual capacitor bodies.

  • Patent number: 4574329
Abstract: A multilayer ceramic capacitor characterized by a stack of alternate layers of dielectric oxidic ceramic material and of electrode layers consisting of a mixture of a metal having a high electric conductivity and ceramic particles of a material having a sintering temperature which is above the sintering temperature of the oxidic ceramic material of the dielectric layers. As a result of this electrode layer composition, the capacitor can be manufactured by means of a uniaxial pressure sintering process in which the stack is sintered while simultaneously applying pressure in the direction transverse to the plane of the layers. This leads to dielectric layers which are substantially free from pores and have a thickness of at most 20 .mu.m.
