  • Patent number: 5935864
Abstract: A sample kit and a method for collecting a sample of a liquid specimen for analytical testing comprises a sample container and a reagent vial. The sample container includes an open end and a capillary end with a chamber disposed therebetween which includes analytical testing strips and the like within the chamber. The reagent vial is provided with a penetrable foil seal over an open end and a reagent therein for receipt of the capillary end of the sample container. The method for collecting a sample of a liquid specimen for analytical testing includes the steps of bringing the capillary end in contact with the liquid specimen to be analyzed and then penetrating the penetrable foil seal over the open end of the reagent vial wherein the sample container fits within the opening in the penetrable foil seal in an air-tight manner forcing the reagent within the reagent vial into the chamber in the sample container and thereby in contact with the analytical testing strips.

  • Patent number: 5281539
Abstract: A device and process for detecting the presence of organic molecular analytes in a fluid comprising a first binding component having a predetermined first affinity for specifically reversibly binding an analyte, a molecular conjugate of the analyte with a signal generating molecule that generates a detectable signal, and a second binding component having a predetermined second affinity for reversibly binding the signal generating molecule. In the presence of analyte, a fluid conducting system allows competitive binding of the analyte with the molecular conjugate and causes displacement of the conjugate and conducts the displaced conjugate to the second binding component. The signal generating molecule generates a detectable signal distinguishing binding thereof at the first or second binding components thereby indicating the presence of the analyte in the fluid.

  • Patent number: 4925629
Abstract: A diagnostic device (10) includes a plurality of standard solutions for being dispensed into a row of wells (20), the standard solutions contained within a predetermined number of standard tubes which are spaced a predetermined distance apart equal to the distance between the plurality of wells (20) whereby a single pipettor (28) can transfer the standards from the entire row of standard tubes (26) to a single row of wells (20) in a single transfer step. The invention further provides a mixing mechanism for agitating the entirety of a microtiter plate seated thereover.
