  • Patent number: 5098759
Abstract: Sheets or continuous paper web containing integral but separable self-adhesive labels each comprising an integral label in the sheet or web surrounded by perforations, or attenuating lines, an adhesive layer on the sheet or web substantially covering the area of the label, and a separating sheet of paper or plastic covering the applied adhesive and jutting beyond all edges of the adhesive layer.

  • Patent number: 5085624
Abstract: Apparatus for the zigzagged folding and stacking of a web of material fed from below and, further, for conveying away stacks as they are finished. The apparatus comprises a reciprocating carriage containing deflection members that define a reciprocating passage through which web feeds from below and two supporting belts associated with the deflection members. The belts have upper stack-supporting surfaces that alternately lengthen and shorten as the deflection members reciprocate to form a stack. Compensating arrangements accommodate changes in length of those upper surfaces. To convey away finished stacks, one belt is endless. A releasable holding element clamps the endless belt to the carriage during stack formation but releases the belt for conveying away stacks. A drive unit is provided to drive the endless belt, when unclamped, for conveying away stacks.

  • Patent number: 5011559
Abstract: Sheets or pages containing integral but separable self-adhesive labels are manufactured by forming an integral label in the sheet or page by application of perforations, or attenuating lines, applying adhesive to the back of the sheet or page in the area of the label, and covering the applied adhesive with a separating sheet of paper or plastic. The label can be formed in the sheet or page either before or after the adhesive and covering are applied.

  • Patent number: 4877177
Abstract: A letter form, which serves as both letter and window envelope, wherein the address is reverse printed on the inside of the window cover film and does not dictate the arrangement and design of the printed text of the letter form and wherein the address is readable when inserts are included. Preparation of the letter form advantageously includes printing of text and address concurrently.

  • Patent number: 4730762
Abstract: Method and apparatus for producing individual stacks of zigzag-folded material from a continuously fed length of material containing cross perforations. A target cross perforation is sensed and halted ahead of the stack being formed. By gripping the material downstream of the target point and reversing the direction of travel of the material, separation at the target point is achieved, after which the completed stack is removed automatically. Continuous feed of material even during stack separation and removal is maintained by provision of an intermediate buffer storage which is drawn down as each stack is being formed.

  • Patent number: 4657164
Abstract: This invention relates to an apparatus which feeds continuous paper web without breakage and maintains low and even web tension through an operating unit which has intermittent throughput including rapid web acceleration and reversal of web travel and permits incorporation of such an operating unit into a finishing line with other operating units which do not operate identically. The apparatus is well-suited, for example, for use in a laser printer-containing finishing line.

  • Patent number: 4573670
Abstract: Apparatus is provided for folding continuous web in zigzag fashion into a stack, which apparatus is suitable for forming a stationary stack from lightweight web from below the stack. The apparatus comprises a reciprocating carriage containing guide elements forming a passage for the web to feed through the carriage as it travels. Belts running around the guide elements and anchored at both ends position the web and support the stack without tending to tear or wrinkle the web as it is being folded. A brake prevents reverse web travel.

  • Patent number: 4406650
Abstract: A support or carrier web, composed of sections interconnected along a separation or fracture line, is folded in a zig-zag configuration and stacked upon an elevationally displaceable support element. After the stack reaches a certain height pressure fingers are pivoted into an effectual position where they press against one side of the finished-form stack. Above these pressure fingers there are arranged suction heads which can be advanced into a position where they engage below the further arriving sections. By applying negative pressure, effective at a suction opening, there is fixidly retained at least the lowermost section of the next stack to be formed. Both of the sections belonging to the different stacks are held in an open position by the suction heads. Into the opening between both of the aforementioned sections there is introduced a roll grate carrying at its leading end a cutter or knife.

  • Patent number: 4334672
Abstract: Sheet units to be tipped onto a carrier web of indefinite length are brought into the relationship to one another that they are to have on the web while riding on an upper stretch of an endless carrier. Abutment elements on the endless carrier, at regular intervals along it, define rearwardly facing surfaces that project above said upper stretch and move forward at a predetermined velocity. An endless driver having an upper stretch paralleling that of said carrier and driven faster, frictionally urges sheet units into engagement of their front edges against said surfaces. An air permeable belt, driven at said velocity, has a bottom stretch that is under a suction shoe and the rear portion of which is upwardly adjacent to the front portion of said endless carrier, so that sheet units are sucked off of the carrier and onto said belt to be carried forward by it without change in their edgewise speed.

  • Patent number: 3994118
Abstract: A bundle of loose sheet material such as printed matter is produced by stacking the material; compressing the stack flatwise between pressure jaws; gripping the compressed stack at vertical transversely spaced edge portions thereof by an up and down movable clamping unit; releasing the pressure jaws; lifting the clamping unit and gripped stack above the released pressure jaws; wrapping banding tape around the lifted stack by rotating the lifted clamping unit and stack about a central vertical axis; lowering the clamping unit and stack; and finally opening the lowered clamping unit to release the banded stack.
