  • Patent number: 9995563
Abstract: A cartridge with a drive system and a projectile which is connected to the drive system, wherein the drive system has a propellant case filled with a propellant and has a case bottom containing a substantially axially extending case bottom opening with a T-shaped edge contour. The case bottom opening is closed by a plug which is of T-shaped configuration, receives an ignition cap and is held in position by a safety fuse ring of a rupture disc. The safety fuse ring is arranged between the front side of the head part of the plug and the rear side of an adjoining inner-side projection of the case bottom, with the result that the propellant chamber is delimited by the front surface of the plug neck. An inner edge of the safety fuse ring engages in a positively locking and/or non-positive manner into an outer groove-shaped recess of the plug.

  • Publication number: 20030177936
Abstract: The invention relates to an ignition device comprising a housing (2) in which an ignition chamber (4) for ignition material (5) is arranged. Said ignition chamber is covered with a flap (12), the bottom thereof having a predetermined breaking point. The breaking point (15) extends in an approximately S-shaped pull between opposite edges of the bottom (14). When the predetermined breaking point is broken by igniting the ignition material (5), parts (14a, 14b) of the bottom (14) are bent upwards in such a way that the propulsion gases (T) of the ignition materials (5) are redirected by said parts (14a 14b). Said construction enables the ignition device (1) to have a reduced height, and laterally-arranged propelling charges can be ignited in a reliable manner.

  • Patent number: 6446557
Abstract: The actuation device has nail-shaped contact pins (1), the heads (3) of which project into an ignition chamber (8), with the ends of a resistor wire (6) being attached to the heads (3) of the contact pins (1). The detonator (9) which fills the ignition chamber (8) is a detonator which is free-flowing during the manufacture of the device, which envelopes the heads (3) of the contact pins (1) and the resistor wire (6) and which subsequently solidifies. The contact pins are surrounded by an electrically conductive extension (23) of the housing of the actuation device, so that a spark gap (F) is formed here; to discharge overvoltage, several sparks can flash over this gap simultaneously.

  • Patent number: 5247889
Abstract: The invention relates to a subcalibre cartridge (1) for recoilless training weapons, whereby a counter-mass (10) is expelled with a cover or end cup (11) from a closed charge case (14) when the practice round is fired. To ensure certain tearing of the end cup, to even out the recoil at the same time and to reduce the safety area behind the training weapon, the bottom of the end cup (11) is provided with an opening which is covered with a foil (16, 17) that tears when the counter-mass is expelled. Self-adhesive aluminum foils are preferably used for this purpose.

  • Patent number: 4599946
Abstract: An ignition device for mines, in particular training mines. The device includes a percussion bolt which is mechanically held in an inoperative position and is loaded by the action of a coil spring so that when released it is propelled axially towards a pyrophoric ignition charge to initiate an ignition chain. The ignition device is of simple and inexpensive construction and can be mechanically released by forces acting in a variety of directions. The device includes a cylindrical housing in which a percussion bolt and actuating lever are mounted one behind the other in axial alignment. A plurality of cup-shaped members, preferably a pair, are mounted in the housing so as to surround at least a portion of the actuating lever and percussion bolt. Upon actuation of the lever by applying a force thereto in a predetermined direction the cup-shaped members are spread apart against a biasing force to release the percussion bolt in the firing direction.

  • Patent number: 4444111
Abstract: Crowd control projectile and a method of ejecting flash and acoustic shock charges from said crowd control projectile. The projectile comprises a housing containing a fuse acting on a delay charge for igniting an ejector charge and at least one charge which can be ejected from the housing without destroying the housing. The projectile has a lid which is blown off by a slight pressure build-up in the container and at least one flash and acoustic shock charge arranged in a tube which is disposed in the housing together with an ejector and scatter charge which is ignited by the delay charge via a fuse cord. The crowd control projectile may also contain a smoke or irritant substance charge disposed in a tube or separate compartment of the projectile which is adapted to be ignited by said delay charge. In an alternate embodiment of the crowd control projectile the upper half of the projectile is constructed as described hereinabove and is mechanically connected to a lower half.

  • Patent number: 4218976
Abstract: A practice projectile for mortars and the like which has a nose fuse mounted on a shell casing. A pyrotechnic charge is disposed in the shell casing. A tail section is mounted in the rear of the shell casing and holds a propellant charge. A percussion cap is mounted in the nose of the projectile and is adapted to be ignited by the nose fuse. A central pipe, having one end opposite the percussion cap, extends from the proximity of the percussion cap to the proximity of the propellant charge in the tail section. The flame from the percussion cap travels through the central pipe and ignites the propellant charge which causes the tail section to be expelled from the rear of the shell casing to thereby expose a rear opening in the shell casing through which the pyrotechnic gases produced by the also ignited pyrotechnic charge are expelled.

  • Patent number: 4036145
Abstract: An improved construction for a percussion fuse interposed between a charge-carrying shell body and a shell head disposed forwardly of the shell body is described. An impact body, which carries the percussion cap of the fuse and which is normally maintained in its rearmost position to hold the cap away from a firing pin extending rearwardly from the shell head, is provided with an inwardly and rearwardly extending frustoconical recess in its front surface, such recess terminating at the front surface of the percussion cap. A conventional inertial sphere is normally disposed within the first recess during the acceleration phase of the shell flight, and is movable forwardly in an inertial manner toward the shell head during a subsequent deceleration of the shell.

  • Patent number: 3995556
Abstract: An improved percussion fuse for a mortar or similar explosive munitions shell is described. The fuse body that interconnects the charge-carrying shell body with the shell head disposed forwardly thereof has a sleeve portion in which a radial bore is disposed. A conventional impact member that carries the percussion fuse and that is slidable axially within the sleeve has a mating, V-shaped groove that cooperates with the bore in the sleeve to normally retain a locking sphere therein; such locking sphere normally prevents the forward movement of the impact member against the primer that is carried at the rear portion of the shell head. An easily puncturable, membrane-like closure member is disposed over the bore in the sleeve portion of the impact member to retain the blocking sphere in its seated position after the shell cartridge has been separated from the shell during the firing operation.
