  • Patent number: 5195442
Abstract: In a process for producing combination patterns consisting of a plurality of individual sewing patterns by means of an electronically controlled sewing machine, which has a memory for the greatly different individual sewing patterns as well as for a plurality of individual stitches with different feed directions, wherein at least one individual stitch is prepared in a selectable manner between the formation of a last needle touchdown of a first individual sewing pattern and the formation of a first needle touchdown of a second individual sewing pattern. The fabric being sewn is fed at least partially at right angles to the normal feed direction or both in the normal feed direction and at right angles to this normal feed direction for a predeterminable number of individual stitches in order to produce a combination pattern of increased width.

  • Patent number: 4691654
Abstract: A feed mechanism for a sewing machine with a material feed dog includes a support for a feed dog which is attached thereto and which is slidably mounted on a feed link and is connected with a drive for its transverse motion that is controlled independently of the main shaft. To effect a low inertia drive, the drive includes a link mounted on a pin firmly fixed to the housing. The link has a bearing drive piece eccentrically positioned with respect to the pin and in drive-contact with the feed dog support. The drive piece comprises an eccentric that surrounds the pin and abuts against a side surface of the support, thus providing a simple drive mechanism. In order to ensure low-friction transmission, the side surface of the support which is in contact with the eccentric is constituted by an abutment piece and in addition, transmission is accomplished via a roller bearing surrounding the eccentric.

  • Patent number: 4548144
Abstract: A sewing machine is equipped with an automatic control assembly for the needle bight and/or the feed dog. The control assembly comprises a control cam block having a plurality of juxtaposed cam track portions to be operatively connected, through a contact mechanism, to the sewing machine needle or to a device for setting the feed dog. The contact mechanism comprises a contact finger which can be set by a handwheel, and a cam track connected to the handwheel, against one of the various cam track portions. The handwheel is mounted on a shaft carrying the control cam block, while the cam track connected to the handwheel forms a ring surrounding the control cam block. The contact finger directly engages the cam track, so that a control assembly of small overall length and having a small number of parts is obtained.

  • Patent number: 4501213
Abstract: A drive for the work feed mechanism of a sewing machine comprises a stepping motor which is secured to a support connected to the housing of the sewing machine in a manner permitting rotary displacement and whose output shaft is connected to the setting shaft of a control mechanism by which the feed amount and direction of a feed dog is determined. To facilitate the adjustment of the angular step position of the stepping motor, the setting shaft of the control mechanism is mounted coaxially of the axis of displacement of the support of the stepping motor. To obtain a compact construction, the setting shaft of the control mechanism is supported in a bushing which is firmly connected to the support and fitted, but angularly displaceable and secured by clamp, in an open bearing of the sewing machine housing.

  • Patent number: 4499836
Abstract: In an electrically controlled sewing machine equipped with means for varying the feed and the needle position for individual stitches and with a program storage for storing consecutive sewing programs, the display is made easily understandable and the display unit remains a compact structure by providing alphanumeric display elements in a sequence and means for switching the display unit into a first state, in which a basic setting of the pattern is indicated in symbols, and into a second state in which the patterns can be indicated in the sequential order of their storage.

  • Patent number: 4444142
Abstract: A control assembly for varying the transmission ratio between a sewing machine driving shaft eccentric for feed dog transverse movement, and thus the feed and stitch widths, of a sewing machine which includes an oscillating lever mounted for oscillation adjacent to the feed dog and connected to it to move it backwardly and forwardly and an eccentric drive acting on the feed dog to move it upwardly and downwardly. The control assembly includes a push rod having one end connected to the oscillating lever to oscillate it and an opposite end having a pin thereon which is confined for movement in an oblong slot of a link which is articulated at its opposite end to one arm of a double armed lever, the other arm of which is engaged by the driving shaft eccentric to oscillate it. The pin carries a sliding block which is engaged in a sliding block guide and they are both made of a plastic having a sliding surface at their engagement surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4316422
Abstract: A combined sewing machine housing and a clamping jig therefor to position the housing for machining purposes comprises a housing bed arm having a column connected to one end and extending upwardly therefrom and supporting one end of an upper arm. The clamping jig includes a post having stop guards thereon for aligning the upper arm and bed arms and column so that they may be positioned on the top of the jig. The sewing machine housing also has a plurality of bearing surfaces defined thereon which may be aligned with or engaged over a corresponding number of clamping elements in the form of rotatable dogs. When the housing is in position on the clamping jig it will be aligned so that one clamping dog enters through an opening of the sewing machine housing and may be rotated into a position to clamp against a bearing surface and the other clamping dogs may be rotated to engage over a bearing surface which is positioned alongside of it.

  • Patent number: 4297956
Abstract: A zigzag sewing machine for sewing fabric, comprises, a sewing machine housing which has a base portion which underlies an upper arm portion which is supported on a column extending upwardly from the base portion. A needle bar pendulum is mounted in the upper arm for swinging back and forth motion and a needle bar is mounted therein for upward and downward motion. A feed mechanism is located in the base portion below the upper arm and it includes a movable fabric support which is engageable with the workpiece to move it selectively in either a forward or backward direction. The drive mechanism for driving the feed mechanism and for controlling the swinging movement of the needle bar is contained in the base portion and it is operated under the control of a plurality of control cams by an operating element which is moved by depressing a key in a wall of the base portion so as to vary the type of stitch pattern which is effected.

  • Patent number: 4296702
Abstract: An electric sewing machine comprises a casing with an electric drive motor mounted in the casing. The casing includes a recess defined in the base portion which opens on one end and receives a control member which fits in the recess. The control member carries a control for regulating the speed of the motor which includes a foot-pedal switch for operating a variable resistance to change the motor speed. The control member includes a reel over which a connecting cable is wound and which extends between the control in the housing of the control member through the casing to the motor. A winding mechanism permits the control member to be removed from the recess of the casing by permitting the unwinding of the cable without disconnecting it from the control. The winding mechanism includes a reel which is unwound with the cable and a spring for returning the reel when the cable is to be rewound for replacement of the control into the housing.
