  • Patent number: 7008365
Abstract: A centrifuge that includes a centrifugal drum having a solids collecting chamber arranged below a bottom of the centrifugal drum. Also included is an oscillation measuring device for recording oscillations of the centrifugal drum. Further included is a medium situated in the solids collecting chamber. Also included is at least one feeler element that protrudes beyond the bottom of, and is connected to the centrifugal drum. When the medium level rises in the solids collecting chamber, the at least one feeler element is contacted by the medium before the medium contacts the centrifugal drum. The contact results in uncritical oscillations that are analyzed by the oscillation measuring device.

  • Patent number: 6827680
Abstract: A centrifuge that includes a centrifugal drum having a drum part, a centrifuge chamber bottom, a drum cover, solid matter discharge openings in a jacket area of a drum bottom part, and a piston valve axially movably disposed in the drum bottom part. The piston valve is held in a closed position by springs supported at the drum bottom part. The piston valve is movable by a control medium introduced into an opening chamber between the piston valve and the centrifuge chamber bottom. The control medium can overcome the springs and open the solid matter discharge openings. The springs are made from an unalloyed spring steel and are substantially encapsulated by sleeves made of corrosion resistant material. The sleeves project on one side into the piston valve and, on the other side, into bores of a bottom area of the drum bottom part.

  • Publication number: 20040023783
Abstract: The invention relates to a centrifuge (or a separator) comprising a centrifugal drum (1) and a spring-loaded piston valve (5) that is guided in a drum bottom part (2) so as to be axially displaceable. Said piston valve (5) is maintained in a closed position by springs (7) that are supported on the drum bottom part (2), in which position solid discharge openings (6) provided in the jacket area (2a) of the drum bottom part (2f) are closed. A pressure is generated when a control medium is fed to an opening chamber (8) between the piston valve (5) and the centrifuge chamber bottom (3), which pressure overcomes the spring forces so that the piston valve (5) is displaced axially to such an extent that the solid discharge openings (6) are released. The springs (7) are produced from a non-alloy spring steel and are fully enclosed by cylinders (7) from a corrosion-resistant material.

  • Patent number: 6648809
Abstract: The present invention relates to a centrifuge including a centrifugal drum, a supply pipe, a distributor, a displacement sleeve valve having an opening chamber and a closing chamber, a supply duct, a control gas feed in the distributor and a closing spring biasing the sleeve valve towards a closed condition during a pressure buildup in the opening chamber. The present invention also relates to a method of operating the centrifuge using a control gas to operate the sleeve valve and cleaning of control fluid paths by guiding a flushing fluid or flushing gas through the control fluid paths.

  • Patent number: 6530871
Abstract: A centrifuge, comprising: a centrifuge basket for separating a fed substance to be centrifuged into different constituents; a receptacle surrounding a portion of the basket; a bag insertable into the receptacle, the bag having an exterior wall and an interior for catching at least a portion of the constituents delivered by the centrifuge basket; a space surrounding the bag; and wherein the interior of the bag near an axis of rotation of the centrifuge basket is connected by a hose with the space surrounding the bag. A method of operating the centrifuge including the steps of mounting the receptacle, feeding the substance to be centrifuged, rotating the centrifuge basket and catching solids in the bag while separating the solids and liquid.

  • Patent number: 4961723
Abstract: The intake space of a centrifuge drum is divided into a vestibule with ribs and an intake chamber without ribs. The vestibule communicates with the intake chamber through an annular gap between the outside diameter of a disk secured to an intake pipe and the inside diameter of the intake space. The intake chamber communicates with a set of disks through channels. The diameter D.sub.K of the intake chamber at the level of the channels is longer than the diameter D.sub.F that must be maintained at the upper surface of the centrifugate in a skimming chamber during operation. Since the incoming centrifugate does not rotate in the intake chamber and since no rotational pressure is accordingly generated, the intake pressure in the intake pipe is transmitted when the intake chamber is full to the centrifugate in the intake chamber, until the requisite level of centrifugate in the skimming chamber is attained.

  • Patent number: 4717376
Abstract: The centrifuge has a self-emptying drum. The jacket of the drum has expulsion apertures that lead from the solids space and that can be closed off by a piston slide. With the piston slide is associated a closure chamber. The closure chamber has channels for supplying closure liquid and communicates through a let-off channel in the form of an annular gap with a chamber. The inside diameter of the chamber equals the outside diameter of the closure chamber. The chamber can accommodate all the closure liquid in the closure chamber. This makes it possible to completely empty the closure chamber, so that there is no residual closure force on the piston slide.

  • Patent number: 4645485
Abstract: A control valve for a self-emptying centrifuge drum for draining closure fluid out of a closure chamber positioned below an axially movable piston slide with a valve piston that closes the closure-fluid runoff bores by means of centrifugal force and opens them by supplying control fluid to an initial control chamber that has an inlet and an outlet. To improve the known control valve to the extent that it will close more rapidly, making the amount of solids extracted at each emptying more constant, another control chamber, also having an inlet and an outlet, but in which the active face of the piston is larger than that of the piston in the initial control chamber, is provided, with the volumes of the control chambers and the cross-sections of the inlets and outlet ensuring that the initial control chamber is filled first and the second control chamber only after a delay.

  • Patent number: 4417885
Abstract: A centrifuge that has a vertical axis of rotation and that is intended for separating or clarifying mixtures of liquids has a drum with a skimming compartment that accommodates a skimmer for diverting a clarified or separated liquid phase. Above the skimming compartment is a blocking compartment that can be filled with a blocking fluid into which a sealing disk that is rigidly connected to the skimmer is immersed and that is intended to prevent atmospheric air from getting into the skimming compartment. The skimmer and sealing disk are positioned in the compartments at a certain distance from the rotating components of the drum. The portions of the compartments communicate with each other that are below the sealing disk and above the skimmer and are connected to a channel through which a gas that is under higher-than-atmospheric pressure can be supplied to the chambers to prevent blocking fluid from squirting out of the blocking compartment into the skimming compartment.
