    Abstract: A sheet deliverer apparatus for a sheet processing machine, particularly a sheet printing machine with a high stapling or stacking sheet delivery capability, wherein sheet deliverer upper and lower chain guide ways extend in the same direction of curvature, and a clamping device is provided to clamp the sheet deliverer chains in tension to provide very even and silent running of the sheet deliverer chains and the gripping pads, extended service life and uniform sheet travel free of flutter over the complete conveying way to the delivery staple or table or permit increased conveying output.

    Abstract: This invention concerns a film dampener unit for offset printing presses, with a dampening medium container in which a constant level of dampening medium is maintained, and with a dampener ductor of pan roller dipping into the dampening medium and transferring the dampening medium as a film onto at least one form roller which contacts the printing plate on the plate cylinder, whereby the thickness of the dampening medium film is determined by a metering roller which engages the dampener ductor roller surface in its rotary motion before the same engages the form roller. In order to reduce the number of rollers required for a flexibly operating dampener unit, the dampener ductor of this invention also functions as a dampener vibrator or oscillating ductor, having in addition to a rotation drive, another drive mehcanism which effects an axial back and forth or reciprocating movement.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for varying the flow of ink by differential adjustment at individual adjustment locations along the length of an ink metering device of a printing machine inking mechanism by a plurality of adjusting devices such as control motors, stepping mechanisms or the like, which are adjustable to differing extents by electronic control devices in accordance with variations in reference value presettings which are the same for all individually adjustable adjustment locations, using reference value-real value comparators which cause actuation of the adjusting devices, in which a reference value memory is provided for each adjusting device, and upon input of reference value variations the values of all reference value memories are multiplied by a selected predetermined reference value variation factor and the products of the multiplication are transmitted as new reference values to the reference value-real value comparator.

To permit interchange of one of several sheet grippers for another without removing the gripper spindle from the machine, the sheet gripper is formed with an open portion which encloses the gripper spindle through a maximum arc of 180.degree. and is fixedly retained in radially centered relation against the gripper spindle by a gripper lifter or carrier, also referred to as a drive dog, which is fixedly secured to the gripper spindle as by means of a screw or other removable fastener which extends through the drive dog or carrier and into the gripper spindle.

    Abstract: A frame member extends from the last printing unit of a printing machine to a table upon which the freshly printed sheets are piled. A plurality of spaced endless chains are reeved about idler sprockets positioned adjacent the printing unit at one end and about driven sprockets at the other end where the printed sheets are stacked in a pile. Transversely extending gripper bars are secured to the chains and pass with the chains along a continuous path from the printing unit to the pile over a sheet guide assembly. The upper end portion of the sheet guide assembly is supported by bearing assemblies which also support a plurality of suction wheels that are positioned between the upper end of the sheet guide assembly and the pile. Actuating devices advance the bearing assemblies toward and away from the pile to thereby position the sheet guide assembly and the suction wheels for depositing a sheet of a selected size onto the pile.

    Abstract: Sheets are fed down an inclined feedboard to a transfer cylinder of a printing press. Adjacent the delivery end of the feedboard there are a plurality of pairs of feed rolls to accelerate the sheets toward the transfer cylinder and a plurality of front guide members to preregister the front edge of the sheet. The pairs of feed rolls each include a driven roll that oscillates through an arc in timed relation with the transfer cylinder. The feed roll drive mechanism includes pairs of flexible members wrapped in opposite directions around and secured to the feed roll drive shaft on which the driven feed rolls are mounted. In one embodiment one of the flexible members is connected to a lever mechanism and the other flexible member is connected to the press housing through a spring member. In another embodiment both flexible members are connected to the lever member with a spring member on the lever member maintaining a tension on both flexible members.

    Abstract: In a sheet fed printing press the sheet delivery apparatus includes a delivery drum positioned adjacent to an impression cylinder of the printing press. The delivery drum has a shaft journaled in the press frame with a pair of delivery sprockets connected the shaft on opposite sides of the delivery drum for rotation therewith. Endless delivery chains are reeved about the sprockets and have a plurality of transversely extending gripper bars secured therebetween in spaced relation to each other. The delivery drum has a recessed portion arranged to receive the gripper bars as the gripper bars revolve about the shaft with the delivery drum.
