  • Publication number: 20060091648
Abstract: A vehicle interior paneling part (10) has an integrated cover that can swing open and that is designed for a vehicle occupant restraint module. The paneling part (10) includes a support part (12). The support part (12) has a predefined breakaway line (16) that defines the contour of the cover. The paneling part (10) further includes a decorative layer (14) which is applied to the support part (12) and has a tear-off line (20). The tear-off line (20) in the decorative element (14) at least in sections meanders about the breakaway line (16) in the support part (12).

  • Patent number: 6862807
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of producing a skeleton for a steering wheel rim made of sheet metal, the method comprising the following steps: a flat metal blank is cut in such a way that it has a ring-shaped section, the ring-shaped section is deformed in such a way that it acquires a hollow profile which in cross-section encloses an angle of more than 180°, and the deformation is carried out at least partially in that the ring-shaped section is moved between two rotatable rollers. The invention further relates to a steering wheel produced by the method proposed. Such a steering wheel has a hollow steering wheel rim including a center channel for delivering cooling air. The channel is defined by the open hollow profile and by a shell part placed onto the profile.

  • Patent number: 6481312
Abstract: A steering wheel for a vehicle comprises a wheel skeleton with a hub, a plurality of spokes and a wheel body. The spokes interconnect the hub and the wheel body. A cover surrounds at least the wheel body and part of the spokes of the skeleton. The cover is assembled of a pair of complementary shells to define a wheel rim. An air duct is defined between the shells. The shells have multiple air outlet openings distributed in a circumferential direction and communicating with the air duct. The shells further define at least one air intake port communicating with the air duct. Alternatively, one of the shells is integral with and actually formed by the wheel body.

  • Patent number: 6176516
Abstract: An airbag module for a vehicle steering wheel comprises a gas generator (1) with an igniter, a folded gas bag (2), an assembly plate (3), a housing (4) with an intermediate cover (5), an outer cover cap (6) optically and haptically adapted to the steering wheel environment, and a horn switch foil (7) to be actuated by pressure exerted on the cover cap (6). A planar actuating element (8) is provided between the horn switch foil (7) and the cover cap (6) and has a consistently defined spacing from the horn foil (7). Range spacers (9) in the form of pins, webs or similar are provided between the actuating element (8) and the cover cap (6) to provide an approximately constant separation distance between the actuating element (8) and the cover cap (6), at least across the entire actuating area of the cover cap.

  • Patent number: 5944340
Abstract: The invention concerns an airbag module for the passenger seat in a motor vehicle. The module is characterized by a cylindrical compressed-gas reservoir (1), a tube (2) that encloses the reservoir (1) and has gas-outlet openings (3) distributed along it, two lateral components (4) that are stamped out of sheetmetal and can be forced together along with the tube (2) by the compressed-gas reservoir (1), and an air sack (5) that is provided with a section enclosing the tube (2), that is secured to the tube (2) by means similar to tensioning straps, and that is folded over the tube (2).

  • Patent number: 5820158
Abstract: A module for installing a passenger airbag, having a trough-like housing (1). The housing essentially comprises a U-shaped base (2) and two essentially flat ends (3). The module also includes a gas generator (4) and a gas sack (5). The gas sack is folded into the housing over the gas generator, One marginal section (6) of the gas sack (5) is wrapped outward around the edge (7) of the housing (1) all the way around. The marginal section (6) is looped along the base (2) around connecting rods (8). The connecting rods secure the ends (3) to the base (2) and extend within a groove-like inward-opening depression (9) in the base (2). A continuous tensioning band (10) attaches the marginal section (6) of the gas sack (5) to the outside of the housing (1) between the edge (7) of the housing and the connecting rods (8), constituting a force-application attachment.
