  • Patent number: 5417035
Abstract: A novel apparatus and method for manufacturing flexible, reclosable containers is described herein. A continuous web of flexible film is formed into a tube around a forming tube. The lateral edges of the continuous web are guided so as to extend substantially perpendicularly from the forming tube, thereby forming a longitudinal seam. A pair of interlocked continuous fastener profile strips are then directed downwardly into the seam between the lateral edges of the film. Intermittent impulse sealing bars are utilized for heating the exterior surfaces of the seam so as to heatseal the bases of the fastener strips to the interior surfaces of the seam. Vertical longitudinal sealing bars are further provided externally from the impulse sealing bars which seal the longitudinal seam proximate the lateral edges of the continuous web. A pair of transverse sealing bars form the top seal of a first container and the bottom seal of a second container.

  • Patent number: 5259236
Abstract: A tribometer which approximately duplicates the forces exerted on a test surface by a human foot or cane tip during the walking process. The force exerted on the test surface by a test specimen is provided by a fluid actuated cylinder supplied with a compressed fluid. This force is applied during a sufficiently short period of time so as to avoid the absorbtion and squeegee effects normally encountered when testing wet surfaces. The coefficient of friction for the test surface is then determined by measuring the angle of incidence at which the test specimen will slip when brought into contact with the test surface.

  • Patent number: 4895015
Abstract: An improvement in a Horizontal Pull Slipmeter (HPS) enables more accurate and more rapid coefficient of friction measurements to be made upon walking surfaces. The improvement involves a specialized interaction between a drag sled and a stationary pulling mechanism which in conventional HPS devices, are seperate entities. The specialized interaction utilizes paired tracks which extend from the pulling mechanism and serve to guide the drag sled. The pulling mechanism utilizes a motor which is automatically activated when the HPS is placed on the walking surface and pulls the drag sled at a constant speed.

  • Patent number: 4516916
Abstract: A hermetic refrigerant compressor having an electric motor and compressor assembly in a hermetic shell is cooled by oil which is first cooled in an external cooler 18 and is then delivered through the shell to the top of the motor rotor 24 where most of it is flung radially outwardly within the confined space provided by the cap 50 which channels the flow of most of the oil around the top of the stator 26 and then out to a multiplicity of holes 52 to flow down to the sump and provide further cooling of the motor and compressor. Part of the oil descends internally of the motor to the annular chamber 58 to provide oil cooling of the lower part of the motor, with this oil exiting through vent hole 62 also to the sump. Suction gas with entrained oil and liquid refrigerant therein is delivered to an oil separator 68 from which the suction gas passes by a confined path in pipe 66 to the suction plenum 64 and the separated oil drops from the separator to the sump.

  • Patent number: 4049205
Abstract: A mill comprises a shaft mounted in a pair of bearings located at one end of the shaft, and a wall having an opening through which the shaft extends. A horizontal-flow container for the charge is removably mounted at one end in cantilever fashion upon one side of said wall and has a screened outlet at its other end. A tubular inlet housing is mounted on the other side of said wall, surrounding a portion of the shaft between said wall and said bearings, and has a seal through which the shaft enters the inlet housing. A feed screw is mounted on said portion of the shaft. Another portion of the shaft, extending within the container, is of greater diameter than said opening and is closely spaced from said wall to provide a narrow gap through which material passes from the inlet housing into the container. The shaft is hollow and has means for circulating a cooling fluid therethrough, and a shroud holds a cooling fluid in contact with the exterior of said seal.

  • Patent number: 4017286
Abstract: A one way check valve is connected between the suction line and discharge line so that immediately after operation of the reversing valve of the system the momentary high pressure derived from the coil which has been operated at the higher pressure is vented to the discharge line then connected to the coil which had been operating at the lower pressure.
