  • Patent number: 8676262
Abstract: A basestation for a cellular wireless communications network is able to configure itself for operation in the network, by selecting appropriate operating frequencies (in the case of GSM network) or scrambling codes (in the case of a UMTS network), and appropriate transmit powers. This makes it practical for a large number of such basestations to be deployed in a network, within customers' premises, without requiring network intervention in each case.

  • Patent number: 8660610
Abstract: A basestation 110 provides coverage for voice and data services within a building using GSM/GPRS and UMTS interfaces within existing networks, allowing use of existing mobile phones. The basestation also provides flexible interfacing to the network operator's core network 130 via the Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) standards as opposed to the usual Iub (UMTS) or Abis (GSM) interfaces used by conventional cellular basestations. Backhaul from the basestation units is achieved through the use of Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) connections over fixed telephone lines. This approach enables low-cost transport of data and voice using VoIP.

  • Publication number: 20130291779
Abstract: Launch and recovery apparatus (220) for launching a boat (230) into water from a supporting structure (210) such as a ship comprises a cradle (211) shaped to receive and support a boat and having a cradle axis, the cradle being moveable relative to the supporting structure between a first stowed position to a second ramp position at which the boat is typically in the water, and wherein the attitude of the axis of the cradle with respect to the water is steeper that when the boat is in the stowed positions. A movement mechanism is configured to move the cradle between the first stowed position and the second ramp position, typically having a linkage mechanism guiding the movement of the cradle into the water, which can be provided in a collapsing parallelogram arrangement which controls the change in attitude of the axis of the cradle as the cradle moves between the stowed and ramp positions.

  • Patent number: 8209282
Abstract: Provided are a system and article of manufacture for mirroring data. A mirror policy indicating volumes in a first storage system is processed to mirror to volumes in a second storage system and volumes in the second storage system to mirror to volumes in a third storage system. The third storage system is at a first geographical location remote with respect to a second geographical location including the first and second storage systems. A command is transmitted to cause the copying of updates to the volumes in the first storage system to corresponding volumes in the second storage system indicated in the mirror policy. Upon an occurrence of an event, the causing the suspension of the copying of updates to the volumes in the first storage system indicated in the mirroring policy to the volumes in the second storage system.

  • Patent number: 8204543
Abstract: A base station for a cellular wireless communications network has a first interface, enabling connection with a remote communications device using a cellular wireless communications protocol in the cellular wireless communications network. The base station also has a second interface, enabling connection over a wide area network, and a third interface, enabling connection over a local area network. Software enables communication over the wide area network between a remote communications device, connected to the first interface, and a core network of the cellular wireless communications network. Software can also enable the remote communications device to communicate with a device in the local area network, or with a server in the wide area network, without using the core network of the cellular wireless communications network.
