    Abstract: Dynamically adapting the layout of a document to a particular output device. The layout of a document can be adapted to a particular output device so that the document fully utilizes the capabilities of the output device. A layout generator interrogates the output device to determine the capabilities of the output device. Based upon the capabilities of the output device, the layout generator selects a style sheet to accommodate the particular output device. The style sheet assigns values to format properties such as font properties, color and background properties, and text properties. The layout of the document is adapted to the particular output device by rendering the document on the output device using the values defined in the style sheet.

    Abstract: The present invention provides for microporous ceramic materials having a surface area in excess of 70 m.sup.2 /gm and an open microporous cell structure wherein the micropores have a mean width of less than 20 Angstroms and wherein said microporous structure comprises a volume of greater than about 0.03 cm.sup.3 /gm of the ceramic. The invention also provides for a preceramic composite intermediate composition comprising a mixture of a ceramic precursor and nanoscale size metallic particles, whose pyrolysis product in inert atmosphere or in an ammonia atmosphere at temperatures of up to less than about 1100.degree. C. gives rise to the microporous ceramics of the invention. Also provided is a process for the preparation of the microporous ceramics of the invention involving pyrolysis of the composite intermediate under controlled conditions of heating up to temperatures of less than about 1100.degree. C. to form a microporous ceramic product.

    Abstract: A method of semiconductor fabrication which permits the creation of openings which have dimensions smaller than what may be achieved by conventional lithography. In an illustrative processing sequence, a pattern transfer material is deposited upon another material layer. The pattern transfer material is covered with photoresist which is subsequently patterned. With the patterned photoresist as a mask, the pattern transfer material is etched with a process which creates inward sloping walls. Then the pattern transfer material is used as a mask to etch the underlying material. The inward sloping walls of the pattern transfer material permit creation of an opening in the underlying material which is smaller than the corresponding opening in the photoresist. The method may also be used to create trenches or field oxides which have dimensions smaller than those achievable by lithography.

An aggregation processor (34) forming part of the aggregation system (30) receives the incremental updates from the general purpose computer (20), writes the incremental updates into the memory (32), and controls the aggregation of base values and incremental updates stored in said memory (32) to read the data values. In this manner data values are updated and read without the use of locking operations.
