  • Patent number: 5891311
Abstract: Apparatus for depositing a film on a substrate includes a housing that encloses a sputtering chamber, a substrate holder for positioning a substrate in the sputtering chamber and a sputtering gun, including a sputtering target, for depositing a film of atoms of the target on a surface of the substrate. The chamber contains a gas which forms a plasma. An electrical potential is applied to the substrate for accelerating ions from the plasma toward the substrate. The apparatus includes a substrate electrode for controlling trajectories of ions accelerated from the plasma toward the substrate. The substrate electrode permits movement of the substrate by the substrate holder and establishes a substantially uniform electrical potential around the periphery of the substrate as viewed from the plasma. The substrate electrode may be biased so that ions substantially uniformly bombard the surface of the substrate.

  • Patent number: 5887757
Abstract: A rotatably adjustable angled nozzle for attachment to dispenser modules which deposit melted thermoplastic materials such as melted adhesives on a substrate. The nozzle has a nozzle body permanently and rotatably attached to a connector nut which threadably engages an outlet nipple of an adapter fitting on a fluid dispenser module and is tightened securely to sealingly seat against the outlet end of the nipple. The nozzle body has a transverse bore in communication with an axial bore and having one end in communication with a nozzle tip and orifice. Rotation of the nozzle body changes the angle of the transverse bore and changes the direction of the stream of fluid emitted by the nozzle tip. The nozzle body can be rotated relative to the nut with a single tool without rotation of the nut. The transverse bore can be at right angles to the axial bore or can be at any other desired angle of inclination.

  • Patent number: 5873528
Abstract: A nozzle assembly (11) of an adhesive dispensing valve (10) includes a first valve (32) adjacent a discharge orifice (34). The first valve (32) opens to permit the flow of adhesive therethrough and closes to terminate the flow of adhesive in response to respective first and second states of the valve operating module (14). The adhesive dispensing valve (10) has a separable nozzle plate (102) that includes the first valve seat (100) and the discharge orifice (34) and is coupled to a nozzle body (72) with a mounting cap (104). A secondary valve (146) is located upstream of the first valve (32) and permits adhesive to flow therethrough in response to both of the first and second states of the valve operating module. However, as the mounting cap (104) and nozzle plate (102) are removed, the secondary valve (146) automatically engages its valve seat (94), thereby terminating the flow of adhesive while the nozzle plate (102) is removed from the valve body (16).

  • Patent number: 4801051
Abstract: An improved liquid dispensing apparatus having a micro-adjustment of the opening travel of a needle valve of the apparatus. This micro-adjustment comprises a sleeve-stop member which is axially movable but non-rotatable in the body of the apparatus. One end of the sleeve-stop member forms an end-stop to limit opening movement of the needle valve away from the valve seat. Screw threads of a first pitch are formed on an external portion of the sleeve-stop member and internal screw threads of a second pitch different from the first pitch are formed on a portion of the apparatus body. A generally tubular adjustment screw element is engaged with both the internal scew threads of the body bore and the external screw threads of the sleeve-stop member so that rotation of the adjustment screw element causes differential axial movement of the sleeve-stop member for fine adjustment of the maximum opening needle valve travel.
