  • Publication number: 20050169897
Abstract: One of the impediments to the treatment of some human brain tumors (e.g. gliomas) has been the degree to which they expand, migrate widely, and infiltrate normal tissue. We demonstrate that a clone of multipotent neural progenitor stem cells, when implanted into an experimental glioma, will migrate along with and distribute themselves throughout the tumor in juxtaposition to widely expanding and aggressively advancing tumor cells, while continuing to express a foreign reporter gene. Furthermore, drawn somewhat by the degenerative environment created just beyond the infiltrating tumor edge, the neural progenitor cells migrate slightly beyond and surround the invading tumor border. When implanted at a distant sight from the tumor bed (e.g., into normal tissue, into the contralateral hemisphere, into the lateral ventricles) the donor neural progenitor/stem cells will migrate through normal tissue and specifically target the tumor cells.

  • Publication number: 20050128823
Abstract: A memory access scheme employing one or more sets of shift registers interconnected in series to which data may be loaded from or written into one or more memory devices. That is, data from the memory devices may be parallel loaded into the sets of shift registers and then serially shifted through the shift registers until it is output from the sets of shift registers and transferred to its destination. Additionally, the data may be read from and loaded into the memory devices to/from the sets of shift registers such that the shifting of the shift registers is uninterrupted during the reading and/or loading of data. Additionally, data from the memory devices may be loaded into two or more parallel chains of shift registers and then serially shifted through the shift register chains.

  • Publication number: 20050105609
Abstract: A system, method, and computer program product are provided for temporal video compression. In use, portions of video are buffered in a first order. Further, the portions of video are at least partially temporally compressed in a second order. Another system, method, and computer program product are further provided for compressing video from a plurality of sources. In use, video is received from a plurality of sources. Such video from the sources is then compressed. Such compression is carried out using a plurality of rate controls. In various embodiments, the video may be received by way of a single video stream, and/or the compression may be carried by way of a single compression module.

  • Publication number: 20050104752
Abstract: A system and method are provided for compressing data utilizing multiple encoders on a single integrated circuit. Initially, data is received in a single integrated circuit. The data is then encoded utilizing a plurality of encoders incorporated on the single integrated circuit. Another single module system and method are provided for compressing data. In use, photons are received utilizing a single module. Thereafter, compressed data representative of the photons is outputted utilizing the single module.

  • Publication number: 20050027271
Abstract: Packaged garments having prefastened, refastenable seams oriented in a certain position can preserve fastener performance. Such refastenable seams are particularly suitable for side seams on pant-like disposable garments. Prior to or during packaging of the garment, the refastenable seams are prefastened and positioned such that any fastening components lie flat in a plane perpendicular to a plane in which front and back panels of the garment lie. When the garment is compressed and packaged, the fastening components remain flat and do not become creased or crushed.

  • Publication number: 20030193924
Abstract: Medium Access Control protocol software architecture which comprises a microcode component providing the protocol implementation level functions and an engine component providing hardware level functions. The Medium Access Control protocol and method for use in a network system allows for centralized management of all MAC-level services by a master device. The Medium Access Control protocol provides an improved protocol message put via the sequence retransmission request protocol scheme. The Medium Access protocol provides a reduced data transmission latency and provides dynamic allocation slots within a Time Division Multiple Access frame definition. The Medium Access protocol also provides a set of failure management functions and power control support.

  • Patent number: 6628036
Abstract: A serpentine-shaped spring device having an internal core made of braided wires coated with elastomeric material for environmental protection and to enhance exertion of a low holding spring pressure on a metal fiber brush, when the spring device is suitably anchored at a stationary location to hold the brush in contact with a rotor during rotation thereof while conductively transferring electrical current thereto from the core of the spring device.

  • Patent number: 6519638
Abstract: The preferred embodiment of the present invention provides system for data collection that provides a solution that can be easily extended to collect different data types. The preferred embodiment provides a collection repository that stores different collected data types with a single consistent interface for accessing the collected data. The preferred embodiment is a data collector implemented from an object-oriented framework. The object-oriented data collector can be easily extended by adding additional instances of the data collector from the framework. The preferred embodiment framework includes mechanisms for global customization of the collector and synchronization of the collection. The preferred embodiment also includes base probe classes that define the probes that perform the actual collection of the system data and store the data in a common collection repository. Subclasses are provided to implement the collection of different types of system data.

  • Patent number: 6487715
Abstract: A method of reordering instructions. Barrier instructions are determined. The method determines when a processor stall may occur, and hoists subsequent instructions to fill in the stall time. However, instructions are not hoisted above the barrier instructions. Barrier instructions include branch instructions, store and load instructions, and instructions which, if hoisted, cause the number of available registers to be exceeded. The method produces a reordered instruction trace and statistics regarding the effectiveness of the reordering.

  • Publication number: 20020018458
Abstract: A wireless communication network system apparatus which provides for isochronous data transfer between node devices of the network, which provides at least one master node device which manages the data transmission between the other node devices of the network, which avoids or reduces interference from other wireless products and which resolves random errors associated with wireless technology including multipath fading. The system provides a communication protocol which shares the wireless transport medium between the node devices of the network, and which provides each node device on the network a designated transmit time slot for data communication.

  • Patent number: 5761843
Abstract: Method and apparatus for tagging fish for identification, and collecting from those caught a chosen number of fish which are the heaviest in weight. To collect the heaviest fish, they are weighed as they are caught, and tagged with a clip-on colored identification tag which is attached to the fish's dorsal fin. The weight and color of the tag are recorded. Subsequently caught fish are weighed and tagged or released as necessary, so that the pre-selected number of fish kept are also the heaviest fish which were caught.
