    Abstract: A modular smoke detector has a sensing electrode carried by an insulator module. The insulator module also carries an ionization source and a field effect transistor. The insulator module lockingly engages a printed circuit board. A conical smoke deflector and exterior electrode are assembled to the insulator module. The deflector and exterior electrode are spaced apart providing a space for inflow and outflow of airborne particles of combustion.
