  • Patent number: 8393568
Abstract: A roller clutch assembly for use in an actuator is provided that includes a roller cage and at least one roller. A lubricating medium at least partially surrounds the roller cage and the roller. The roller cage includes at least one wiper configured to move the lubricating medium toward its functional location adjacent the rollers. An aircraft actuator for controlling movement of an aircraft flight control surface is also provided that includes a ball nut and a ball screw operatively connected to the flight control surface. A one-way roller clutch is operatively connected to the ball nut and substantially prevents rotation of the ball nut in a first direction in response to a compressive force on the ball screw. A roller clutch assembly according to the present invention is positioned between the ball nut and the one-way roller clutch.

  • Patent number: 6971724
Abstract: A method and apparatus for simulating a failure in a heavy vehicle air brake system where a failure initiation switch is connected to a failed system selector switch and both switches are connected to a first valve associated with a primary braking system and a second valve associated with a secondary braking system of a vehicle. The failure initiation switch and the failed system selector switch are used to selectively interrupt a braking signal to either said primary braking system or said secondary braking system.

  • Patent number: 6817234
Abstract: A test system is provided for primary and secondary brakes in a vehicle. The test system includes a two-position combination first valve having a first inlet coupled to a primary air supply, a second inlet coupled to a test air supply, and an outlet coupled to the primary brakes. The test system also includes a two-position combination second valve having a first inlet coupled to a secondary air supply, a second inlet coupled to the test air supply, and an outlet coupled to the secondary brakes. A system selector switch is provided for selectively applying current to one or both of the first and second valves responsive to a test signal input wherein each of the first and second valves directs fluid flow from one of the first and second inlets to the outlet.

  • Patent number: 4844202
Abstract: Gearboxes having bearings, gears, splines, and seals have been provided with a continuous flow of lubricating and cooling oil supplied through orifice jet units having orifices of a size to preclude clogging by core sand remaining in the cast housing of a gearbox. This has resulted in excessive oil in the gearbox and excessive heat rejection. An improved lubrication system for minimizing heat rejection in gearboxes has the orifices of the orifice jet units sized to deliver only the required flow to the components in the gearbox and a filter is associated with each of the orifice jet units to preclude core sand entrained in the oil and of a size to block an orifice from reaching an orifice. The method of minimizing heat rejection embodies the determination of only that amount of lubricating and cooling oil flow required for the bearings, gear meshes, splines and seals in the gearbox and sizing the orifices accordingly.
