Patent number: 12605535Abstract: The circulation assist devices disclosed herein can be used, for example, in methods of decreasing venous pressure in the Fontan circulation. The devices can include an inlet, an outlet, a stator, a rotor, and an impeller driven by rotation of the rotor. In some embodiments, the impeller blade (or blades) can at least partially define a central lumen extending through the device. The device can be coupled to the inferior vena cava and the pulmonary artery. Rotating the impeller blade(s) increases blood velocity through the lumen and causes the outlet pressure to be higher than the inlet pressure. The impeller can be configured such that, when it is stationary, the forward static pressure drop between the inlet and the outlet is minimized. That is, the forward static pressure drop of the device approximates the pressure drop between the inferior vena cava and central pulmonary artery of the unassisted Fontan circulation.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 2020Date of Patent: April 21, 2026Assignee: Children's National Medical CenterInventors: Pranava Sinha, William A. Publication number: 20240158817Abstract: Methods of separating plant matter are described herein. The methods may include contacting monocotyledonous plant matter with one or more enzymes or one or more organisms expressing one or more enzymes, where the monocotyledonous plant matter includes vascular bundles, pith, and rind. Following the enzymatic treatment, additional processing of the plant matter may be undertaken through mechanical means. The low-intensity mechanical processing may dislodge the pith, rind, and vascular bundles from one another while minimizing energy consumption and potential damage to the plant matter. Further processing may include sorting mechanisms such as mechanical screening or pneumatic air classification. The incorporation of enzymatic treatment prior to mechanical separation may enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of separating the rind, pith, and vascular bundles from one another compared to conventional mechanical separation methods.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 16, 2023Publication date: May 16, 2024Inventors: Bradley D. Patent number: 11927786Abstract: A device carrier for an information handling system includes a latch, an interface, lights located on a front of the latch, and first and second light pipes. The latch holds the device carrier within the information handling system. The first light pipes are located within the latch, and provide light to the lights located on the front of the latch. The second light pipes are located within the interface and the latch, and provide the light to the first light pipes. The location of the second light pipes enables the same brightness of the light provided to the lights when a long device is inserted within the device carrier as compared to when a short device is inserted within the device carrier.Type: GrantFiled: January 18, 2022Date of Patent: March 12, 2024Assignee: Dell Products L.P.Inventors: Qingqiang Guo, Harris Di Dihuweii, William A. Patent number: 8920517Abstract: An energy-storing prosthetic knee includes an upper leg structure and a lower leg structure hingedly connected to the upper leg structure. The lower and upper leg structures move pivotally relative to one another. A fluid actuator is operatively connected to the upper and lower leg structures such that relative pivotal movement of the upper and lower leg structures causes a fluid to flow in a predetermined manner within the fluid actuator. At least two controllable variable fluid flow resisting devices, an accumulator, and a control system are also provided. The control system is actuable to cause storage of the fluid energy for a predetermined length of time and release of the fluid energy at a predetermined time during the gait cycle. Both the storage and release of the fluid energy are variable by action of the control system without physical modification of other components of the prosthetic knee.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 2012Date of Patent: December 30, 2014Assignee: The Cleveland Clinic FoundationInventors: William A. Smith, Sergey Samorezov, Brian L. Davis, Antonie J. van den Bogert
