  • Patent number: 8334787
Abstract: Device, structure and method for retrofitting a utility meter such as a gas meter with a retrofit module or for new installations to conventional meters so that it can be read remotely and so that retrofit may be accomplished simply by unskilled workers and without damage or alteration of meter. The method for retrofitting a meter of the type having shaft driven dial with dial index pointer and index cover involves removing the meter index cover to access the meter index dial pointer; attaching a magnet to the pointer so that it is carried in orbit around the pointer shaft to which the pointer is attached; and mounting a sensor to the meter adapted to sense the passage of the pointer-mounted magnet and to detect the orbit of index pointer; the attaching of the magnet and the mounting of the sensor being performed without removing the meter dial index assembly.

  • Publication number: 20110320742
Abstract: Techniques for generating access information indicating a least recently used (LRU) memory region in a set of memory regions. In an embodiment, data is stored in an entry of an LRU tracking list (LTL) based on a touch message indicating when a memory group has been touched—e.g. read from, written to and/or associated with a memory region. The data stored in an LTL entry may include an identifier of a memory group and/or validity data specifying whether that LTL entry stores a set of default data. In another embodiment, access information may be generated based on the memory group identifier and the validity data.

  • Patent number: 8086833
Abstract: A BIOS includes a core and multiple modules. The modules include both those that are platform specific and those that are not platform specific. Each module has a standard interface that allows the core (or other module) to call the module. A platform vendor constructs a BIOS by selecting modules from one or more vendors, which when executed can select modules that are suitable for the platform the BIOS resides in.

  • Publication number: 20110303031
Abstract: A novel apparatus and method of controlling sails and their related mechanical forces on sailing systems through the utilization of threaded elements/forms. This device is easily scaled to the requirements of the particular sailing system being controlled. It has four basic elements providing control. The first is a rotatable lead screw having a lead angle of 5° or less. A matching internally threaded element, which travels in a linearly upon the lead screw when same is rotated. The lead screw may have non-threaded smooth sections on each end, which provide an area for rotary bearing supports. Rotation of the lead screw is provided for upon either or both ends. The lead screw may be of any form or design provided it has a lead angle of 5° or less. This feature eliminates the need for brakes or other holding devices to sustain loads after they have been positioned.

  • Publication number: 20110307878
Abstract: A method for updating platform firmware is disclosed. This capability is facilitated by a standard software abstraction for a firmware storage device, known as Firmware Volume (FV) that is managed through a Firmware File System (FFS). The FFS enables firmware files to be created, deleted, and updated individually. The FFS also enables a plurality of firmware files to be updated atomically by managing file state information via state bits stored in a file header of each firmware file, whereby an atomic change to a single state bit simultaneously causes the FFS to use an updated set of firmware files in place of an original set of firmware files.

Abstract: A polymeric composition comprising a first polymer chosen from a poly(arylene ether) polymer including polymer repeat units of the following structure: —(O—Ar1—O—Ar2—O—)m—(—O—Ar3—O—Ar4—O)n- where Ar1, Ar2, Ar3, and Ar4 are identical or different aryl radicals, m is 0 to 1, n is 1 m; a polysulfone, a polyimide, a poly(etherketone), a polyurea, a polyurethane, and combinations thereof and a second polymer comprising a per(phenylethynyl) arene polymer derivative. Cured films containing the polymer can exhibit at least one of the following properties: Tg from 160° C. to 180° C., a dielectric constant below 2.7 with frequency independence, and a maximum moisture absorption of less than 0.17 wt %. Accordingly, the polymer is especially useful, for example, in interlayer dielectrics and in die-attach adhesives.

  • Patent number: 8014530
Abstract: A method and apparatus for authenticated recoverable key distribution are described. In one embodiment, an application key is provided to an integrated chip platform. In one embodiment, the integrated chip platform encrypts the application key with a Key Encryption Key, which is stored within the persistent memory on the platform, and outputs a ChipID and the encrypted application key to enable recovery. In one embodiment, the platform can provide the ChipID to a recovery database to replace a lost encrypted application key. In one embodiment, the ChipID is the public key of a public/private key pair, and the application key is provided to the integrated chip platform by encrypting it using this public key. In one embodiment, the ChipID and the Key Encryption Key are derived from a secret random number programmed into the integrated chip. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
