  • Patent number: 4489468
Abstract: The clearance necessary for the assembly of the nozzle ring of an axial flow steam turbine is localized through a temporary bolting. The localized clearance is compartmentalized by making a generally radially extending hole centered on the clearance at the circumferential location of the boundary between each pair of adjacent nozzle banks. Pins are driven into the holes and provide a seal between adjacent nozzle banks.

  • Patent number: 4456032
Abstract: In an admission valve structure for a turbine all of the valves except the first opening one are spring biased closed, when seated. Because of the sequential opening of the valves, the valve closing bias of each spring acts as an opening bias relative to all earlier opening valves until that valve is opened. The combined spring forces act to open at least some of the valves thus permitting the governor to attain minimum speed once the throttle valve is opened in the steam header.

  • Patent number: 4296538
Abstract: An assembly for sealing an interface between a high pressure steam chest and a casing, wherein high pressure steam flows from the steam chest into the interior of the casing. The assembly comprises a sealing element extending through the interface for preventing direct contact between the high pressure steam and the interface, and joined to the steam chest so that a steam tight joint is developed therebetween. The assembly further comprises a chamber defined by the steam chest, the casing, and the sealing element in communication with the interface between the steam chest and the casing; a first passageway having one end in communication with the interior of the casing and a second end in communication with the chamber, for passing steam from the interior of the casing to the chamber; and means for developing a pressure differential across the first passageway so that the steam pressure at the second end of the passageway is less than the steam pressure at the first end of the passageway.

  • Patent number: 4191485
Abstract: A wheel of a turbo-machine is secured to the shaft of the machine by forming a side of the wheel with an end cap affixed thereto. Compressive force generating means connected to the end cap generate a force for compressing the wheel between the end cap and shaft.

  • Patent number: 3930751
Abstract: A locking mechanism for preventing axial movement of side entry buckets mounted upon a rotor disc. The locking mechanism includes a pin loosely supported within a disc tang, the pin having a recessed shoulder arranged to abut against the platform of a first bucket and an extended section arranged to be received in a complementary slot formed in the platform of the next adjacent bucket. A further mechanism is provided for preloading the pin against the buckets whereby the dampening characteristics of the system are enhanced and balancing of the buckets is facilitated.
