Patent number: 10065467Abstract: A fifth wheel hitch adapted for receiving a hitch ball. The fifth wheel hitch has a frame that is mountable to a towing vehicle surface. The frame has an outer sleeve that is fixed with respect to the frame and a receiver is telescopingly received inside the outer sleeve. The receiver is moveable longitudinally with respect to the outer sleeve. The receiver has an upper end, a lower end, and a support wall within the receiver that is located between the upper and lower ends. The receiver is selectively lockable with respect to the outer sleeve. The selective locking is done with a combination of a pin driven through aligned holes in the outer sleeve and receiver and threaded fasteners drive through the outer that impinge on the receiver to prevent rattling.Type: GrantFiled: July 8, 2016Date of Patent: September 4, 2018Inventors: Randall A Pulliam, William A Aske, Kurt E. McKesson, James M. Karasch

Publication number: 20170137077Abstract: The present application describes apparatus for attaching or securing a fifth wheel hitch to a bed of a towing vehicle. The fifth wheel hitch may be arranged to be secured to a hitch ball, such as a gooseneck hitch ball. The fifth wheel hitch may include a chamber for accepting a hitch ball, a locking pin for securing the hitch ball in the chamber, and a handle for selectively securing and releasing the hitch ball. The locking pin may be biased towards a position for securing the hitch ball in the chamber. A damper may be included to dampen impact forces transferred from the trailer to the towing vehicle through the fifth wheel hitch. The fifth wheel hitch may include support members having wear strips that may rest on the surface of the towing vehicle bed.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 27, 2017Publication date: May 18, 2017Inventors: Richard McCoy, William Aske

Patent number: 8220818Abstract: A hitch for coupling a trailer to a towing vehicle includes a hitch assembly and a base assembly. The hitch assembly pivots between an aligned position and a turning position as the towing vehicle turns. A bearing assembly rides between the hitch assembly and the base assembly. The bearing assembly guides the hitch assembly between the turning and aligned positions. The base assembly has an anchor assembly which prevents the hitch assembly from sliding fore or aft when in the aligned position.Type: GrantFiled: November 24, 2010Date of Patent: July 17, 2012Assignee: Pulliam Enterprises, Inc.Inventors: Andrew Pulliam, William A.
