  • Patent number: 12044163
Abstract: A control system for an engine comprising a turbocharger includes a throttle valve, a cold light off catalyst (CLOC), a CLOC valve, and a controller. The CLOC is positioned in a bypass passage around a turbine of the turbocharger. The CLOC valve selectively routes exhaust flow from the engine between the turbine and the CLOC. The controller is configured to command the CLOC valve to a first position whereby exhaust flow is routed to the CLOC in a CLOC mode; determine, based on operation in the CLOC mode, a pressure drop within the turbocharger; and command the actuator to move resulting in increased airflow into the engine while in the CLOC mode.

  • Patent number: 12037936
Abstract: A control system for an engine comprising a turbocharger includes a cold light off catalyst (CLOC), a CLOC valve, an oil control valve and a controller. The CLOC is positioned in a bypass passage around a turbine of the turbocharger. The CLOC valve selectively routes exhaust flow from the engine between the turbine and the CLOC. The oil control valve regulates lubrication oil from the engine to the turbocharger. The controller is configured to command the CLOC valve to a first position whereby exhaust flow is routed to the CLOC in a CLOC mode; determine, based on operation in the CLOC mode, a pressure of the turbine of the turbocharger; compare the determined pressure to a pressure threshold; determine a target position of the oil control valve to mitigate oil leakage from the turbocharger during CLOC operation; and command the oil control valve to the target position.

  • Patent number: 11125202
Abstract: Engine combustion phasing control techniques utilize a trained feedforward artificial neural network (ANN) to model both base and maximum brake torque (MBT) spark timing based on six inputs: intake and exhaust camshaft positions, mass and temperature of an air charge being provided to each cylinder of the engine, engine speed, engine coolant temperature. The selected target spark timing could be adjusted based on a two-dimensional surface having engine speed and air charge mass as inputs. The target spark timing adjustment could be performed only during an initial period when the trained ANN is immature. The ANN could also be trained using dynamometer data for the engine that is artificially weighted for high load regions where accuracy of spark timing is critical.

  • Patent number: 9353674
Abstract: An ignition system for an internal combustion engine having at least one combustion chamber where the ignition system includes a housing, an ignition device, an injector, and a pre-chamber having a nozzle disposed spaced from the proximal portion of the pre-chamber. The igniter portion of the ignition device and the nozzle of the injector are operatively supported in the proximal portion of the pre-chamber and disposed flush therewith. The igniter portion ignites the fuel in pre-chamber such that partially combusted pre-chamber products are forced through orifices in the pre-chamber nozzle and extinguish, but dispersed through the combustion chamber so as to ignite the main fuel charge therein.
