Patent number: 4878276Abstract: A spring clip, particularly for use as a peg for suspending clothes from a crossbar of a hanger, has a bar-engagement clip lying between a fulcrum for pivoting movement of a pair of levers and a nip formed by one end of the pair of levers. A U-shaped spring urging those ends together has arms the outer surfaces of which lie flush with outer surfaces of the levers to form substantially flat side surfaces. The clip is integral with the spring. The ends of the arms of the spring may engage the levers by a snap-fit. The flat side surfaces may be used for the adhesive attachment of alternative mounting means for the clip, such as a double-sided adhesive pad.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 1988Date of Patent: November 7, 1989Assignees: Peter G. Patent number: 4678179Abstract: A sorting apparatus arranged to receive a stream of sheets for collating the same into booklets having a rotary sorter comprised of a plurality of bins each of which includes a sheet clamping device to hold sheets in registered orientation in the bins. Control means cooperate with the clamping means to release the sheets at a loading station to permit egress of the sheets one at a time into the bins as the sorter rotates, and to release the clamping devices at an unloading station to permit removal of the completed booklets.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 1984Date of Patent: July 7, 1987Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: William B. Edwards, Thomas J. Hamlin

Patent number: 4612391Abstract: This invention provides a process for the conversion of an alicyclic .alpha.,.beta.-olefinically unsaturated ketone compound to an acyclic oxocarboxylic acid product which contains at least one less carbon atom per molecule than the ketone starting material. The conversion involves ozonation of the alicyclic .alpha.,.beta.-olefinically unsaturated ketone in an aqueous alcohol reaction medium, followed by a heating step.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 1980Date of Patent: September 16, 1986Assignee: Philip Morris IncorporatedInventor: William B. Edwards, III
-
Patent number: 4590278Abstract: This invention provides a process for the preparation of cotinine and nicotine analogs containing substituents on pyrrolidinone/pyrrolidine ring at the 3' position of cotinine and at the 4' and 5' position of nicotine. The process proceeds via a first step preparation of a cotinine intermediate which is represented by the formula: ##STR1## wherein M is an alkali metal cation.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 1984Date of Patent: May 20, 1986Assignee: Philip Morris IncorporatedInventor: William B. Edwards, III
-
Patent number: 4582421Abstract: A finishing station is disclosed as having a rotary sorter arranged to receive a stream of sheets at a loading station and to collate them into booklets or copy sets. An adhesive binder is positioned at an unloading station and is arranged for movement toward and away from the edges of the booklets while still in the sorter bins of the sorter. When moved toward the edges of the booklets, an applicator roller in the binder is arranged to apply adhesive material to the edges in timed sequence relative to sheet loading.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 1984Date of Patent: April 15, 1986Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Thomas J. Hamlin, William B. Edwards
-
Patent number: 4564185Abstract: A copying machine/finisher system is disclosed as having a rotary sorter arranged to receive a stream of copy sheets produced by a processor in conjunction with an automatic document handling apparatus of the type which produces multiple copies of a document sheet placed at an exposure station. The sorter collates the stream into booklets as the sorter is rotated in an indexing manner. An adhesive binder and a stapler are selectively positioned to effect binding while the booklets are still in the bins of the sorter. Binding is effected in timed relationship with sheets still entering the sorter. The sorter/finishing apparatus may also be a stand alone system.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 1984Date of Patent: January 14, 1986Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Thomas J. Hamlin, William B. Edwards
