  • Patent number: 4409901
Abstract: Apparatus for performing operations on a railway track, comprising an automatically actuated rail adjusting mechanism with parts to engage opposite edges of a flange of a flanged rail for adjusting the relative positions of a rail and a sleeper vertically and for adjusting the position of a rail by moving it sideways relative to a sleeper.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 10, 1981
Date of Patent: October 18, 1983
    Assignee: Pandrol Limited
    Inventor: William B. Hark
  • Patent number: 4406162
Abstract: An apparatus for creating surface waves in a body of liquid is disclosed which comprises a liquid displacer, a motor and a linear actuator for imparting movement to the displacer, and a level sensing device cooperating with the liquid displacer to control liquid level through control of wave generation. The present apparatus is able to adjust liquid activity to accommodate extraneous wave patterns, and to thereby more accurately control the exact wave patterns generated. The present apparatus is useful for performing wave testing to simulate aquatic conditions for ships, oil rigs and harbor installations.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 2, 1981
Date of Patent: September 27, 1983
    Assignee: Seasom Controls Limited
    Inventor: William B. Hark
  • Patent number: 4229969
Abstract: The invention relates to apparatus for making waves in a liquid in test tanks and the like by the back and forth movement in the liquid of a displacer. A problem caused by the escape of liquid round the side of the displacer during such movement is overcome by the provision of a seal between the displacer and the wall of the tank, which seal by a rolling action allows relative movement between the wall and the displacer.

  • Patent number: 4207018
Abstract: A pressurizing station (1) for a pipeline conveyor (2) includes a transfer conduit (5) for the passage of load-carrying capsules (3) between upstream and downstream portions (4 and 6) of the pipeline (4, 5 and 6) and a reverse, by-pass conduit (20) extending between outlet and inlet conduits (9 and 10) respectively connected to upstream and downstream ends (7 and 8) of the transfer conduit (5). A fan (36) is provided between the outlet and inlet conduits (9 and 10). A valve member (17) is mounted on an axis extending transversely of the transfer conduit (5) and is movable, in response to fluid flow through the pressurizing station (1), between a closed position, in which first and second opposite ends (21 and 22) of the valve member (17) respectively extend across the transfer conduit (5) and across the reverse, by-pass conduit (20), and an open position in which the first end (21) of the valve member (17) is clear of the path of capsules (3) travelling through the transfer conduit (5).
