  • Patent number: 10457412
Abstract: The bearings of aircraft angle of attack (AOA) vanes are susceptible to lightning strike damage, which causes fluting on the inner and outer races of the bearings and causes the bearings to generate friction, noise, and vibrations. To prevent the bearings from experiencing damage due to lightning strikes, the bearings, the shaft, and/or the mounting plate are configured to create an electric isolator to prevent the electric current from the lightning strike from passing through the bearings, thereby preventing the bearings from incurring lightning strike damage.

The heater circuit is electrically coupled to the voltage source. The heater circuit includes a heater array and a compensation circuit. The heater array is configured to provide heat to a region using the current. The compensation circuit is electrically coupled to the voltage source in parallel with the heater array. The compensation circuit is configured to maintain the current above a threshold current level when the heater array is operable. The current sensor is configured to measure a level of the current to the heater circuit and output an alert in response to the current falling below the threshold current level.

  • Patent number: 6510740
Abstract: A pressure transmitter with a transmitter housing having an outer wall providing thermal resistance. The outer wall extends from an isothermal island at a first end to a heat sink island at a second end. The isothermal island includes a fluid inlet, and pressure and temperature sensors. The heat sink island includes a primary heat load device that is heat sunk to an outer shell of an electrical connector. The connector contacts carry a current controlled by the transmitter, and a portion of the current is conducted by a primary heat load device. A circuit board controls the current to represent the pressure. A high accuracy, temperature compensated current output represents pressure.

  • Patent number: 6059254
Abstract: A process instrument mount includes an outer wall and an inner wall. The outer wall is separated from the inner wall by a space. The mount has a first end and a second end, and a hole extends from the first end to the second end. The inner wall surrounds the hole, and has a threaded region to receive a process instrument from the first end. The inner wall also has a flange proximate the second end to sealingly mate with the process instrument. In one embodiment the inner and outer walls are portions of a unitary metal block, and the space separating them comprises a groove formed in the metal. In another embodiment the inner and outer walls are separate parts joined together at the second end and spaced apart between the first and second ends.

  • Patent number: 5333504
Abstract: A low range pressure sensor includes a base plate of brittle material, and a diaphragm plate mounted on the base plate and sealed around a periphery to the base plate. Pressures are introduced to cause the diaphragm to deflect toward the base plate, and the deflection of the diaphragm is sensed through strain gauges to provide an indication of the pressure. The diaphragm is provided with a plurality of individual support posts on a side facing the base plate, so that when the diaphragm is deflected toward the base plate under high overpressures the support posts will support the diaphragm against movement to avoid failure or breakage of the diaphragm. The number of support posts can be varied as desired.
