  • Publication number: 20080034605
Abstract: A tape measure comprises a main case having first and second sidewalls and a peripheral wall extending between the sidewalls; a flexible tape blade selectively deployable from the case; the tape blade having a generally curved cross-sectional profile when deployed from the main case and having a generally flat profile when retracted into the main case; a hook attached to a first end of the tape blade so as to be movable a distance along a longitudinal axis of the tape blade; the hook having a first section disposed generally parallel to the longitudinal axis and a second section connected thereto and disposed generally normal to the longitudinal axis, the hook comprising titanium and having a weight factor of not more than about 0.60. The tape blade may advantageously be not more than about 1.10 inch in width and have a standout of at least 9½ feet.

  • Publication number: 20060230627
Abstract: A tape measure includes a novel mounting clip assembly having a distinct lever arm coupled to a base plate for movement about a pivot axis between a closed position and an open position. The lever arm has a first spring-receiving bay on a side generally facing the base plate and disposed rearward of the pivot axis. The base plate has a first fastener-receiving hole therein forward of the pivot axis, a second spring-receiving bay on a side generally facing the lever arm. A spring biases the lever arm to assume the closed position and extends from the first bay to the second bay. A centerline of a mounting hole in the base plate extends through a second hole in the lever arm when the lever arm is in the closed position. A top of a securing fastener is accessible via the second hole. Also, methods of assembly are described.

  • Publication number: 20050252020
Abstract: A tape measure comprises a main case; a flexible non-metallic tape selectively deployable from the case; the tape comprising a matrix of a plurality of longitudinally disposed reinforcing strands and a polymer; at least a first length indicating measuring scale printed on the tape and visible to a user when the tape is deployed; the tape having a generally flat cross-sectional profile when deployed from the main case and having a width in the range of approximately ? inch to approximately one inch. The tape measure may advantageously further comprise a see-through outer coating, the first length indicating measuring scale visible through the outer coating; and/or a second length indicating measuring scale printed on the tape and visible to a user when the tape is deployed. The plurality of reinforcing strands may advantageously comprise at least thirty strands of glass fiber material. A corresponding method is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20050121556
Abstract: An apparatus for controlling movement of a flying device, such as a kite. In controlling such movement, the apparatus comprises a series of force transmitting members associated with a control bar to be grasped by an operator. Such association minimizes interference of the force transmitting members with the control bar surface so as to heighten the level of control that the operator may exert over the kite. Such association also permits the operator to achieve, through movement of the control bar, selective adjustments in both the velocity and acceleration at which the kite and the operator are able to move in a single direction.

  • Publication number: 20050028397
Abstract: A tape measure housing, and a tape measure incorporating the housing, includes a main case and an elastomeric grip element mated to the main case. The main case has first and second sidewalls and a peripheral wall extending between the sidewalls which help jointly define an internal chamber therewithin for housing the coilable tape blade. An elastomeric grip element having a perimeter edge is disposed over at least a portion of the top portion, at least a portion of the rear end portion of the case, and at least a portion of the first and second sidewalls. The outer surface of the first and second sidewalls is external recess-free proximate the perimeter edge of the grip element.

  • Patent number: 4658334
Abstract: An enclosure for electronic systems provides substantially total RF isolation of separate segments of a system except for the transmission of desired signals between different segments, even though the various segments are fabricated on a common circuit board. A special multilayer circuit board configuration makes this isolation feasible. Buffer circuits connected to drive signals on and receive signals from conductors which extend between isolated compartments prevent communication of stray signals along those conductors.
