Patent number: 5484080Abstract: The base defines a liquid retaining reservoir and has a cover with a straw containing compartment which includes a tubular section and an enlarged section. A pivotally mounted lever has a portion accessible from the exterior of the container and an interior portion situated within the enlarged section of the straw containing compartment. In the retracted position of the straw, a lid seals the straw opening in the cover and the straw seals the liquid passage between the base reservoir and the tubular section. When pivoted, the lever moves the straw up the compartment to open the lid and protrude above the cover. The interior portion of the lever is bifurcated and moves through an arcuate path. The enlarged section is shaped to accommodate this arcuate travel path.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 1994Date of Patent: January 16, 1996Inventors: William Blasnik, Robert A. Coonradt

Patent number: 5437685Abstract: A banding assembly has a needle at one end, a long thin band, and a buckle at the other end. The buckle is provided with upstanding elements on either side of a channel which receives the band. The elements have openings adapted to be engaged by a towel clamp to retain the buckle as the band is drawn through the channel and locks into position. The elements are normally spaced apart by a distance slightly less than the width of the band. Once locked into place, the band is trimmed, leaving a tail extending from the buckle. The tail is bent backwards and "snap fits" between the elements. The elements are then crimped over the tail to retain it on the buckle and to cover any sharp edges. A dome-like member is provided to guide the band into the channel. The buckle is attached to the end of the band by spaced tabs which extend through openings in the band and are crimped toward each other.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 1994Date of Patent: August 1, 1995Inventor: William Blasnik

Patent number: 5217004Abstract: Movement of the cover relative to the housing spring loads and latches a piston carrier in the armed position. Inhalation causes a passageway door to open, releasing the carrier latch to permit the carrier to be moved toward the canister by the spring. The piston moves with the carrier, due to a fluid connection therebetween, applying a compression force on the spring loaded canister valve stem and causing it to dispense the inhalant through an opening in the piston which functions as a nozzle. After the inhalant is dispensed, the carrier fluid vents permitting the spring of the canister valve stem to move the piston relative to the carrier, and thus release the force applied to the valve stem by the piston. The sensitivity of the toggle linkage between the door and the carrier latch is adjustable. The linkage can be manually tripped for testing purposes.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 1990Date of Patent: June 8, 1993Assignee: Tenax CorporationInventors: William Blasnik, Robert M. Patent number: 4976721Abstract: An intestinal occluding clamp including first and second clamping members with jaws, a biasing spring, a clamp housing, a clamp base and a clamp cap. The clamp housing has a housing cavity formed at one end thereof and a first clamping member is connected to and projects away from the housing cavity. The biasing spring is disposed within the cavity and circumferentially about the base post. The clamp cap and biasing spring are retractably mounted within the housing cavity and provide a spring-loaded, push-button housing for simple and reliable operation.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 1988Date of Patent: December 11, 1990Assignee: The Research Foundation of State University of New YorkInventors: William Blasnik, Stanley B. Patent number: 4813416Abstract: A banding assembly with which sternum halves can be brought into abutting closure, the assembly including as a unitary arrangement, a needle for initiating passage of a band member connected at one end thereto around the sternum and there being a buckle connected to the band opposite end to allow for band loop formation and drawn tight enclosure of the sternum halves, the buckle and band embodying loop locking structure and excess band length being readily removable upon completion of the closure banding.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 1987Date of Patent: March 21, 1989Assignee: The Research Foundation of State University of New YorkInventors: Stanley B. Pollak, William Blasnik

Patent number: 4746016Abstract: A mechanism for mounting and removing a blade having an elongated slot mounting means from a blade handle which has a mounting boss for insertion into the elongated slot. The mechanism includes a handle guide forming one side of a passageway for insertion of the handle therethrough, the handle guide having a flexible body which is sufficiently flexible to allow deflection of the handle for withdrawal of the boss out of mating relationship with the elongated slot. The mechanism further includes blade extracting means fixed opposite the handle guide forming a second side of the passageway and having a blade retaining projection arranged adjacent the passageway which can be actuated to prevent withdrawal of a blade from the passageway.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 1987Date of Patent: May 24, 1988Assignee: The Research Foundation of State University of New YorkInventors: Stanley B. Pollak, William Blasnik

Patent number: 4481901Abstract: A gearshift indicator measures the slope of a surface being traveled by a multi-geared vehicle and indicates the gear which should be used appropriately for the surface. An adjustment varies the relationship between slope and indication to accommodate headwind and the strength and characteristic of the rider.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 1982Date of Patent: November 13, 1984Assignee: Thomas R. Patent number: 4295688Abstract: The present invention is directed to an improved bearing construction of the ball bearing type which is particularly suitable for supporting drawer slides and the like for translatory movement. The bearing comprises a tire defining an outer bearing race, a stud defining an inner bearing race, a plurality of balls captured between the races, the device being characterized by the stud including an axially directed annular retainer surface, portions of which are deflected radially, which deflected portions provide a temporary connection precluding separation of the bearing elements. The annular surface, after deflection, defines a stop or locator surface against which a support bracket is biased in the final assembled position thereof, the corrugated or crown-like end surface formed as a result of deflection, providing a high frictional surface whereby augmented connection between the bearing and the support bracket is assured.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 1980Date of Patent: October 20, 1981Assignee: Hardware Designers, Inc.Inventor: William Blasnik

Patent number: 4074838Abstract: A garment hanger construction wherein a hook is adapted to be releasably secured to a hanger body in a first locked position and a second swivel position, is provided. The hook includes an elongated shaft having at least first and second projections. The hanger body includes a bearing sleeve for receiving the elongated shaft, the bearing sleeve having a projection receiving slot and a projection receiving groove. The hook is coordinately axially displaceable between a first locked position wherein the first projection is disposed in the slot in the bearing sleeve to thereby prevent the hook from rotating and a second swivel position wherein the second projection is disposed in the groove to permit the hook to freely swivel with respect to the hanger body.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 1977Date of Patent: February 21, 1978Assignee: Lerner Manufacturing, Inc.Inventors: William Blasnik, David Halpert
