  • Publication number: 20240369723
Abstract: A radiation detector is disclosed. The detector comprises: a conversion device configured to develop a voltage when subject to incident radiation; and a switch operable configured to move between a first state and a second state when triggered by a threshold voltage. The conversion device is connected to the switch such that, when the threshold voltage is developed across the conversion device, the switch is triggered to move from the first state to the second state. The detector further comprises an interrogation circuit operable to determine whether the switch is in the first state or the second state, thereby to determine whether the detector has been subjected to a threshold level of radiation associated with the threshold voltage. A system comprising radiation sensitive apparatus and the radiation detector is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20240286782
Abstract: Systems, methods, and apparatuses for a safe delivery system for a modified atmosphere and functional treatments into a sealed enclosure containing perishable products. The systems, methods, and apparatuses may include an injector, a top sheet dispenser, a bottom sheet dispenser, and pallet wrapper. The top sheet, bottom sheet, and wrap sheet form the sealed enclosure. The injector may create a modified atmosphere in the sealed enclosure. The injector may include a stabilizing support bar and at least one nozzle formed at a right angle to the stabilizing support bar. The nozzle may be connected to a gas source for injecting at least one gas into the sealed enclosure. The nozzle may be connected to a vacuum or controlled venting source to remove air and control the pressure within the sealed enclosure. The injection process is protected from leakage using containment devices, pads and/or aspirating covers or a closed chamber.

  • Patent number: 11958627
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of determining the relative positions of components of a munitions system, the munitions system comprising a first component (331) and at least one second component (333). The method comprises monitoring the output of a resonant circuit (305) provided on a first component (331), the resonant circuit (305) having a resonant frequency, detecting a change in the output due to a change in the resonant frequency caused by a change in the relative positions of the first component (331) and the at least one second component (333), and using the detected change to determine that the at least one second component (333) has moved relative to the first component (331).

  • Patent number: 10508299
Abstract: Microfluidic devices are provided for trapping, isolating, and processing single cells. The microfluidic devices include a cell capture chamber having a cell funnel positioned within the cell capture chamber to direct a cell passing through the cell capture chamber towards one or more a cell traps positioned downstream of the funnel to receive a cell flowing. The devices may further include auxiliary chambers integrated with the cell capture chamber for subsequent processing and assaying of the contents of a captured cell. Methods for cell capture and preparation are also provided that include flowing cells through a chamber, funneling the cells towards a cell trap, capturing a predefined number of the cells within the trap, interrupting the flow of cells, flowing a wash solution through the chamber to remove contaminants from the chamber, and sealing the predefined number of cells in the chamber.

  • Patent number: 10495412
Abstract: In a method of carrying a munition on a munition launcher platform, the munition launcher platform is provided with a data tag activator and a data tag reader. A munition is attached to the munition launcher platform, the munition being provided with a data tag. An activation signal is transmitted from the data tag activator to the data tag. As a result of receiving the activation signal, the data tag returns a data response to the data tag reader. The receiving of the data response provides the munition launcher platform with an indication that the munition is still attached to the munition launcher platform.

  • Patent number: 10082367
Abstract: A method of conducting a strike against a target using a designator and a missile. The following steps are conducted: (i) the designator designates the target using a first signal, such as a laser; (ii) the missile detects the laser reflected off the target; (iii) after detecting the reflected laser, the missile emits a second signal, such as a LADAR signal, to designate the target; (iv) the missile tracks the so-designated target; (v) the designator detects the LADAR signal reflected off the target; and (vi) in response to detecting the reflected LADAR signal, the designator stops the designation of the target. This may enable the designator to perform other tasks, while the missile tracks and engages the target.

  • Patent number: 9757738
Abstract: This disclosure provides for an improved electrostatic filtration system for removing contaminants from a dielectric fluid that overcomes arcing concerns, resistance burns and fluid flow concerns. The system has three major elements: an electrostatic filtration cartridge; an electrostatic filtration cartridge housing; and an electrostatic filtration system housing. It is within the electrostatic filtration cartridge where the apparatus and method for addressing the arcing concerns and fluid flow concerns reside. The electrostatic filtration cartridge includes at least one set of m conductive plates (m set) and at least one set of n conductive plates (n set). Within the sets (m set and n set) of conductive plates, the conductive plates are directly coupled by a series of conductive connecting portions. Each individual conductive plate includes a cutaway portion to avoid electrical contact between one set of conductive plates and an adjacent conductive connecting portion within another set of conductive plates.
