  • Patent number: 8033913
Abstract: Different mechanisms are provided to enable a gaming machine to download files/images, move/copy the files/images from one folder to another without breaking authentication, and resume interrupted file manipulation operations such as move/copy operations and/or download operations which have been interrupted by a power hit. In this way, the technique of the present invention is able to provide a self-diagnostic system for ensuring authenticated, atomic transactions, and for automatically handling detected error conditions. Additionally the technique of the present invention is able to provide a mechanism for seamlessly updating gaming machine components at runtime. This may include, for example, the automatic mounting and/or unmounting of selected games to/from the gaming machine memory during runtime.

  • Publication number: 20080108405
Abstract: Some implementations of the invention provide improved methods and devices for configuring gaming machines. According to some implementations of the invention, an operator's proposed changes to configuration item values will be assessed according to one or more rule sets. If a proposed new configuration value violates one or more such rules, according to some implementations the proposed new configuration value (or other configuration value(s)) may be automatically changed in order to obtain compliance with the rule(s). The rules may or may not be implemented by a gaming machine. Some implementations of the invention provide remote hosting of configuration menu pages with or without such auto-configuration features.

  • Publication number: 20080090648
Abstract: Cashless instruments having counterfeit prevention features and methods for detecting counterfeit cashless instruments are disclosed. A pattern of attempted redemptions or other transactional recordings of gaming machine printed tickets, vouchers or other cashless instruments having identification numbers with valid predictable fields but invalid unpredictable fields can indicate a likely counterfeiting attempt or operation. Occurrences can include a thief or other unscrupulous party discovering which gaming machine printed ticket fields lend themselves to prediction and which do not, and then attempting to guess at some of the randomly generated numbers in hopes of coming up with a valid number or number set. In addition, stored hash numbers can be compared to a hash number generated according to a one-way hash function. A pattern of invalid hash numbers can also indicate a likely counterfeit attempt.
