    Abstract: A traction device having a base that attaches to the wheel of a vehicle and a shaft projecting from the base has a moveable member on the shaft that forces a traction member to cover a portion of the tire tread when extra traction is desired, as in ice and snow. The traction member may be attached either to the base, in which case the moveable member pushes against it to radially spread it, or to the moveable member itself, in which case the device is moved toward the tire and spread at the time it is engaged.
