Publication number: 20240133120Abstract: Processes for imparting oil and grease resistance to paper products. In some embodiments, the process can include combining a plurality of fibers and water to produce a slurry; forming the slurry into a wet web; pressing and draining the wet web to produce a wet sheet; and drying the wet sheet to produce a dried sheet. A sizing composition and a barrier compound can independently be applied to at least one of the slurry, the wet web, the wet sheet, and the dried sheet. The sizing composition can include one or more alkenyl succinic anhydride compounds. The barrier compound can include a polyolefin dispersion, a styrene acrylate emulsion, a sucrose ester, a modified starch, styrene maleic anhydride, an ethylene acrylic acid dispersion, a styrene acrylic acid, a polyvinyl alcohol, an ethylene vinyl alcohol, or a mixture thereof. The dried sheet can have an average KIT Value of at least 3.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 6, 2023Publication date: April 25, 2024Applicant: ECOLAB USA INC.Inventors: William C. Johnson, Victoria R. Patent number: 6743360Abstract: A debris-catching system for preventing debris from falling into the pipe opening at the bottom of a manhole catch basin. The debris-catcher comprises two semi-circular halves hinged together such that the two halves may be folded and inserted into a manhole opening. The debris-catcher comprises aligned apertures that allow it to be hooked and lowered into a manhole. The two halves are opened up to form a circular blocker which sets on the manhole bottom flat base. The debris-catcher allows normal effluent flow through the manhole while in place. The debris-catcher floats and will do so during an overflow condition. Further, the debris-catcher will resume its protective function after an overflow condition has subsided.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 2003Date of Patent: June 1, 2004Inventors: John G. Petersen, William C. Holmes

Patent number: 5690047Abstract: A sea anchor may be lifted from the sea bottom by remotely inflating an inflatable float connected to the anchor. The inflated float provides a buoyant lift force that automatically lifts the anchor to the water surface or assists a person in lifting the anchor to the surface. The anchor may be lowered to the sea bottom by venting air out of the float from a remote point on the water surface.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 1996Date of Patent: November 25, 1997Inventor: William C. Patent number: 5511432Abstract: A holder for a corrugated paperboard test specimen is designed to orient the specimen in a vertical plane so that the specimen can be subjected to an edgewise compression test. The holder includes upper and lower clamps that grip the upper and lower surfaces of the specimen, leaving an intermediate section of the specimen unsupported; the specimen will experience a buckling action in the unsupported section as a response to progressively increased vertical loads. Each clamp includes a spring-biased clamping pad that can be retracted manually to permit insertion of a test specimen into the clamping space.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 1995Date of Patent: April 30, 1996Inventor: William C. Patent number: 5146823Abstract: A method and apparatus for the precision cutting of corrugated paperboard panels into rectangular test specimens, having shapes of predetermined size. A reference rod is inserted through a selected flute in the corrugated paperboard panel, prior to the first cutting operation on the raw panel. The reference rod is then placed in a specific location on the cutting table surface, so that the internal flutes in the raw panel are oriented at a specific angle to the cutting plane of the cutter mechanism. This ensures that the first edge formed on the raw panel has a precise orientation relative to the panel flutes, such that the final precision cut panel specimen can be used as a test specimen for performing edge compression tests, and other tests, that are reproducible, and representative of the characteristics of the corrugated paperboard panel structure.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 1991Date of Patent: September 15, 1992Assignee: Emerson Apparatus Co., Inc.Inventor: William C.
