  • Patent number: 4995819
Abstract: A set of strips of electrical terminals connected together by carrier strips (122 and 120) each comprises electrical terminals (95) each having a receptacle portion (96), a barbed retention part (98) for retaining the terminal in a terminal receiving cavity (62) in an insulating housing (14), a terminal leg and a cranked arm (102) connecting the retention part (98) to the terminal leg (100). The leg (100) has intermediate its ends a retention member (108), the leg (100) terminating in an insertion lance (112) for insertion in a hole (H) in a substrate (S). The set of terminal strips, comprises pairs of terminal strips, the arms (102) of the terminals of each pair of said strips being cranked in opposite senses. The portion (114) of the leg (100), between the arm (102) and retaining member (108) varies in length from pair of terminal strips to pair of terminal strips. The angle of crank of the arm (102) similarly varies.

  • Patent number: 4908335
Abstract: A one piece, molded, insulating connector body (14) for a surface mounted, shielded, electrical connector (10), comprises a plug portion (16) projecting from the body (14) into a forward hood (68) thereto, for mating with a shielded electrical socket (18) inserted into the hood (68). There projects from a terminal receiving face (70) of the body (14), a terminal leg spacer plate (74) having notches for receiving the `U`-shaped retaining members (108) on the legs (100) of the terminals (95) in through cavities (62) in the body (14). Each leg (100) has a lance (112) for insertion in a hole (H) in a substrate (S). The legs (100), and cranked arms (102) connecting them to receptacles (96) of terminals (95), are so shaped and dimensioned that even where the cavities (62) are arranged in three superposed rows, the lances (112) can be inserted into the holes (H) where these are arranged in only two rows, and with a different spacing from that of the rows of cavities.

  • Patent number: 4842555
Abstract: A surface mounted electrical connector (10) has a metal shield (12) having a front plate (28) with a circular opening (30) for receiving a shielded socket (18) of a mating connector (20), to allow it to mate with a plug portion (16) of the surface mounted connector (10). Spring fingers (34) project from the edge (32) of the opening (30) for engaging shielding (19) of the mating connector (20). Between a pair of the fingers (34) there also projects form the edge (32), a latching finger (80) which is shorter than the spring fingers (34), for latching behind a depressable protuberance (90) on the socket (18). When the plug portion (16) is to be mated with the socket (18), a flexible arm (98) in the socket (18), which carries the protuberance (90) is supported by a support bar (88) which is stiffly resilient. During mating, the protuberance (90 ) displaces the latching finger (80) and latches behind its free end (84).

  • Patent number: 4842554
Abstract: A one-piece metal shield (12) for a surface mounted connector (10) having a substantially rectangular body (14) from which a plug portion (16) projects forwardly, is in the form of a rectangular box-like structure having a top wall (24) side walls (26) and a front wall (28). The front wall (28) has a circular opening (30) from the periphery of which spring fingers (34) project inwardly of the shield (12) for engaging the shielding (19) of a shielded electrical socket inserted through the opening (30) to mate with the plug portion (16). The shield (12) is secured to the body (14) by means of flanges (48 and 50) thereon which engage with a snap action in grooves (82, 86) in the body (14). At least the side walls (26) have mounting legs (54) for securing the shield (12)and thus the body (14) to a substrate (S).

  • Patent number: 4842547
Abstract: An electrical connector (10) has a housing (12) containing multiple electric terminals (18). A multiple conductor cable (36) passes through an opening in the housing with each of the conductors terminated to the conductor terminating portion (19) of a respective one of the terminals (18). A strain relief region (20) is bounded by two sides (42,44) and a bottom abutment surface (32). Each of the sides has spaced mutually facing engagement surfaces (42,44). A U-shaped staple (30) has a bight (52) and two legs (54,56) extending therefrom to respective free ends (55,57). Each leg (54,56) is of an appropriate cross section, having large edges (62) and small edges (64), the small edges (64) include a plurality of barbs (66) spaced therealong in penetrating contact with the engagement surfaces (42,44).
