Patent number: 6615464Abstract: A lightweight structurally sound casket formed preferably of a sandwich construction using a core of an open cell or honeycomb patterned material and fluid resistant surface elements. The casket is comprised of a body containment portion and a lid portion, each of which has the sandwich construction as the main structural element. The open cell material is structurally enhanced by being sandwiched between first and second stabilizing surface elements in both the body containment portion and the lid portion. In addition to the stabilizing surface elements, an aesthetically pleasing material is adhered to the outer portions of the body containment section and lid so that the casket has an attractive appearance.Type: GrantFiled: January 24, 2002Date of Patent: September 9, 2003Assignee: Batesville Services, Inc.Inventor: William C. Patent number: 5619785Abstract: A method of fabricating a metal casket by assembling a body containment mold and a lid mold. Each of the molds has inner and outer surfaces. A release mechanism is separately applied to the surfaces of each of the molds. A body containment compartment is formed by depositing a layer of metal on the inner surface of the body containment mold until a desired thickness is achieved. A lid component is formed by depositing a layer of metal on the inner surface of the lid mold until a desired thickness is achieved. Structural polymeric material is then applied to the inner surfaces of the body containment compartment and the lid component. Thereafter, the body containment compartment and the lid component are removed from their respective molds and are hingedly connected to one another.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 1995Date of Patent: April 15, 1997Inventor: William C. Tambussi

Patent number: 4379013Abstract: This invention relates to a method and apparatus for fabricating a composite structure and, in particular, to a method and apparatus for fabricating a hollow composite structure having a dense laminated wall formed by bonding and curing a plurality of resin-preimpregnated fiber sheets or tapes under heat and pressure.Hollow composite structures may be formed by applying layers of resin-impregnated fabric material onto a pressure bag covering a rigid mandrel, disposing the assembly of the mandrel, pressure bag, and uncured composite layers within an outer mold, transmitting heat to the composite material to cure the resin and applying pressure within the flexible pressure bag to act against the composite material during the curing operation to assure proper dimensions, density, structural properties and wall thickness of the cured composite structure.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1980Date of Patent: April 5, 1983Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventor: William C.
