In operation, the pyrolytic converter is uniquely heated without any flame impinging on the reactor component and the waste material to be pyrolyzed is transported through the reaction chamber of the pyrolytic converter by a pair of longitudinally extending, side-by-side material transfer mechanisms. Each of the transfer mechanisms includes a first screw conveyor section made up of a plurality of helical flights for conveying the heavier waste and a second paddle conveyor section interconnected with the first section for conveying the partially pyrolyzed waste, the second section comprising a plurality of paddle flights. Once operating, the apparatus is substantially self-sustaining and requires a minimum use of outside energy sources for pyrolyzing the waste materials.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 2001Date of Patent: September 16, 2003Inventor: William C. Patent number: 5868085Abstract: A system for pyrolysis of hydrocarbon constituents of waste material including a treatment unit featuring a retort with a ellipsoidal cross-section forming a first retort half and a second retort half, the material to be treated being selectively deposited in only one half of the retort at a time during any given period of system operation, to avoid abrasion and wear of the half not in use, thus effectively doubling the life of the retort component. Another feature of a treatment unit according to the invention is a heat reclamation arrangement that introduces gases that have first been combusted to supply heat energy to the retort through a conduit directly into the interior of the retort, to improve the efficiency with which pyrolysis takes place. Further, the treatment unit has an exhaust and cleaning arrangement to render gases produced during pyrolysis substantially free of pollutants such that the gases can be vented to the atmosphere.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 1997Date of Patent: February 9, 1999Assignee: Balboa Pacific CorporationInventors: Andrew H. Hansen, William C Walker

Patent number: 5501250Abstract: Method to delete and reintroduce individual yarns as needed when they are being fed to a textile process by cutting an individual yarn, that is being forwarded to the process, rapidly to prevent producing a disruptive tension change in the process or in other yarns being forwarded to the process to produce an upstream cut end of an individual yarn; holding the upstream cut end of said individual yarn in an elongated condition at a ready position for reintroducing to the process; and reintroducing said yarn at said ready position to the textile process according to the following steps; metering said individual yarn from said source at a controlled rate; passing said cut end of yarn with a first individual yarn forwarding jet for forwarding said cut end from said ready position and maintaining said cut end of yarn in an elongated condition during said metering; directing said elongated, cut end of yarn in a path past an individual yarn cutter; passing for forwarding said elongated cut end of yarn from said cuttType: GrantFiled: November 22, 1994Date of Patent: March 26, 1996Assignee: E. Patent number: 4978508Abstract: A method and apparatus for decontaminating soil which has been contaminated with hazardous hydrocarbons. The apparatus includes a blending or scrubbing unit for mixing the contaminated soil with water and a suitable surfactant to form a slurry; screening apparatus operably interconnected with the blending unit for removing from the slurry particles larger than a predetermined size to form a small particle slurry; a reactor unit operably interconnected with the screening apparatus for reacting the slurry with ozone to form an ozone enriched slurry; an ultraviolet radiation generator for irradiating the ozone enriched slurry with ultraviolet radiation; a static mixer operably interconnected with the reactor unit for mixing a floculating material with the slurry to form a floculated slurry; and a belt-forming press for receiving the floculated material from the static mixer and for forming the floculated slurry into contamination free blocks.Type: GrantFiled: September 1, 1988Date of Patent: December 18, 1990Assignee: Pacific Resource Recovery Corp.Inventors: Andrew H. Patent number: 4759300Abstract: A method and apparatus for use in processing waste materials of various kinds and for reclaiming useable by-product materials from the pyrolized waste materials. The waste materials to be pyrolized are efficiently dehydrated prior to their introduction into the pyrolysis retort using microwaves generated by a large microwave generator. After the waste material is dried, initial ignition is accomplished using a very high intensity laser beam. Laser ignition is continued until sufficient methane and other volatile gases are produced for burning in a burner unit to sustain the pyrolysis reaction.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 1987Date of Patent: July 26, 1988Assignee: Balboa Pacific CorporationInventors: Andrew H. Hansen, William C. Walker, Richard K. Walker

Patent number: 4224726Abstract: A hot melt carpet seam roller comprising a handle. At one end of the handle is disposed a support member with an opening. Received by the opening in the support member is an axle. The axle is divided into two sections. Each section of the axle is directed away from the handle at an angle approximately 5.degree. from the axis of the opening formed in the support member so that the converging angle therebetween is approximately 170.degree.. A first set of nylon discs is mounted on one section of the axle with the axes thereof coincident with the axis of the one section of the axle. A second set of nylon discs is mounted on another section of the axle with the axes thereof coincident with the axis of the other section of the axle. The peripheral surface of each disc is formed with radially disposed, angularly spaced teeth. When the roller is used behind a hot melt iron, the roller presses a carpet into the molten hot melt adhesive.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 1979Date of Patent: September 30, 1980Inventor: William C. Patent number: 4130045Abstract: A musical instrument tuning system disposed and displayed upon a string instrument. The tuning system includes a first indicator displayed upon the surface of the string generally having three indicia zones representing a pitch alignment zone, a string tension load warning zone, and a zone indicating that the string is below pitch. The first indicator may take the form of a coating applied to the external surface of the string providing a plurality of visually discernable bands. A second indicator is displayed upon the instrument to provide a visual reference for the string markings. Rotatable displacement of a peg to which the string is fixedly secured provides for linear displacement of the bands with respect to the second indicator. Thus, rotation of the peg resulting in alignment of the tension load warning zone with the second indicator alerts the user that the string may rupture upon the addition of further tension.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 1977Date of Patent: December 19, 1978Inventor: William C. Walker

Patent number: 4062265Abstract: A musical instrument tuning system adapted to be mounted on a string instrument. The tuning system provides a visual indication to repeatedly aid in the proper tuning of a set of strings. Additionally, the tuning system gives a visual indication when a string is tension loaded to or near the rupture point. Further, the tuning system indicates when a string is below pitch after a reference point is set to provide proper tuning of a particular string. The tuning system mounted on the instrument pegboard includes a first decalcomania having three indicia zones representing a proper tuning zone, a string tension load warning zone and a zone indicating the appropriate string is below pitch. A second decalcomania mounted on a peg has indicia which is aligned with the first decalcomania tuning zone. Rotation of the peg resulting in alignment of the peg indicia with the tension load warning zone indicates a warning to the user that the string may rupture.Type: GrantFiled: January 9, 1976Date of Patent: December 13, 1977Inventor: William C.
