  • Publication number: 20050279710
Abstract: An apparatus and method for treating wastewater with a flocculent. The wastewater is mixed with a flocculent so that the contaminants and pollutants within the water are absorbed by the flocculent. The mixture is then transported to a gravity bed filter having a filter media conveying means. The filter media is conveyed to a second end as the mixture is transported to the first end. Clean water seeps from the mixture and is collected in a basin. Thus, the wastewater treatment may continuously operate without interruption. Such an apparatus offers the advantage of possibly being made smaller in size than typical wastewater treatment plants and thus may be made mobile.

  • Publication number: 20050268425
Abstract: A surface cleaner having a cleaning head. The cleaning head has a deck and a skirt extending from the deck such that when the skirt is placed in contact with the surface to be cleaned, a cleaning volume is defined. The cleaning head has at least one vent port and at least one vacuum port formed therein. Nozzles are mounted in the cleaning volume for movement therein when fluid under pressure is supplied thereto and sprayed therefrom. A liquid supply system supplies the fluid under pressure to the nozzles so that the surface to be cleaned is effectively scrubbed by the fluid to produce a mixture of the fluid and contaminants loosened from the surface to be cleaned. A vacuum recycling system coupled to the vacuum port(s) draws high-pressure air through the vent port(s) and over the surface being sprayed with the liquid under pressure. The mixture of fluid and contaminants is suctioned through the vacuum port(s) and filtered to separate the fluid from the contaminants. The fluid so-separated is then discharged.

  • Publication number: 20050154538
Abstract: The invention provides an X-ray crystal structure of the 30S ribosome, obtained from Thermus thermophilus 30S subunit, having a tetragonal space group P41212 with unit cell dimensions of a=401.4±4.0 ?, b=401.4±4.0 ?, c=175.9±5.0 ?. An advantageous feature of the structure is that it diffracts beyond 3 ? resolution. The invention also provides a crystal of 30S having the three dimensional atomic coordinates of the 30S ribosome, the coordinates being provided in Tables 1A and 1B. The data may be used for the rational design and modelling of inhibitors for the 30S ribosome, which have potential use as antibiotics.
