  • Publication number: 20110279683
Abstract: An automatic motion triggered camera with improved triggering to produce images with the target animal substantially centered in the field of view. A single motion detector, a camera, and image memory are controlled by a processor that detects changes in the motion detector output and generates a trigger signal for the camera. The trigger follows a first stage of waiting until a predetermined minimum threshold of movement is detected and a second stage of waiting until a further change in the output signal indicative of an animal being substantially centered in the field of view of the camera is detected. Compensation for camera capture delay time can be included by sampling a plurality of motion detector signals, computing an estimated time at which the animal will be centered, and triggering the camera prior to that time.

  • Publication number: 20070153958
Abstract: In a method of determining an operating margin to a given operating limit in a nuclear reactor, operational plant data from an on-line nuclear reactor plant is accessed, and reactor operation is simulated off-line using the operational plant data to generate predicted dependent variable data representative of the given operating limit. The predicted dependent variable data is normalized for evaluation with normalized historical dependent variable data from stored operating cycles of plants having a similar plant configuration to the on-line plant. A time-dependent average bias and a time-dependent uncertainty value for the predicted dependent variable data are determined using the normalized historical dependent variable data, and a risk-tolerance level for the on-line plant is obtained.

  • Publication number: 20060174261
Abstract: Methods and media are provided for quantifying viewer awareness of advertising images in a video source is provided. According to one embodiment, a media source is segmented into a set of frames, which are annotated with attributes based on the images that appear within each frame. The attribute data is analyzed to determine detections that meet provided criteria. The detections are indexed based on the attributes, which are then supplemented with additional attributes to create one or more valuation factors. The valuation factors can be used to derive a discount factor that can be applied against a benchmark, such as the 30-second spot rate, to determine a value associated with the video source.

  • Publication number: 20060111968
Abstract: Methods and media are provided for objectively valuing advertising content (or the potential viewer impact thereof) that occur during the course of an event or other presentation (such as TV sitcom). In one embodiment the method includes receiving a source of media, indexing a set of sponsorship images within the media to provide a set of indices, and providing valuation factors by aggregating the indices so that valuation factors can be derived that indicate a viewer's potential awareness of the advertising content or images therein. The valuation factors can be used in connection with a benchmark, such as the 30-second spot rate or time, to determine a value associated with the media source, including a monetary value.

  • Publication number: 20050015227
Abstract: A method, arrangement and computer program is described for generating a database of selectable fresh fuel bundle designs usable in one or more nuclear reactors. In an example, an initial population of candidate fresh fuel bundle designs may be generated and a set of rod-type changes to make to a given candidate in the initial population may be established. A given candidate fresh fuel bundle may be modified by making at least one rod-type change from the set therein. A core loaded with the modified bundle design may be simulated to generate bundle performance outputs. The bundle performance outputs may be ranked based on a plurality of user-input limits. The modified candidate fresh fuel bundle design may be stored, if the bundle performance outputs meet, or are within an accepted margin to, the user-input limits, so as to generate the database.

  • Patent number: 6529563
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing a self-sustaining precise voltage and current feedback biasing loop. The present invention provides a circuit for initially biasing the bandgap and master bias current generator at startup. The feedback biasing loop has loop dynamics that are chosen such that the gain of the positive feedback loop is less than one so that the loop will not oscillate under normal operation after power-up.

  • Patent number: 6317068
Abstract: A method and apparatus for matching common mode output voltage at a switched-capacitor to continuous-time interface. An active continuous time summation circuit is used at the output of the switched-capacitor stage to derive the common mode level that is at the output of the switched-capacitor stage. This derived signal is filtered to remove any noise component remaining in it, and is then used as the reference common mode signal in the continuous time stage. This forces the output common mode, and hence the input common mode of the unity gain amplifier stage, to track the common mode output of the switched-capacitor stage. This adaptive tracking eliminates the common mode interface error, which could be present and could vary from die to die (due to parasitic variations). This technique ensures proper tracking of the DC levels between the negative and the positive terminals of the unity gain amplifier, which is essential for low distortion operation of the amplifier.

  • Patent number: 6049412
Abstract: A reflective Faraday-based optical system is formed to include a partially transmissive optical reflector so that a portion of the optical signal propagating through the system will not be reflected but instead used as an input signal to a monitoring system. The partially transmissive reflector is configured to transmit only a relatively small portion of the optical signal (about 1-10%) so that the performance of the system is not affected. The optical monitoring arrangement may comprise one or more photodetectors, optical fibers, or other optical components for capturing the transmitted signal and converting into an electrical representation that can be evaluated to monitor the power in the optical signal.

  • Patent number: 5710659
Abstract: An optical amplifier having high overall gain and low gain tilt, useful in an optical transmission system or the like. The amplifier has a doped optical fiber as the amplification medium and two pumps, the shorter wavelength one propagating with the signal being amplified and the longer wavelength one propagating opposite the signal being amplified. A wavelength selective reflective fiber grating is disposed along the doped fiber to reflect the second pump signal. The addition of the grating allows the amplifier to have a higher gain with a lower gain tilt than amplifiers without the grating. Positioning the grating along the fiber allows for the control of the overall gain with respect to the gain tilt for a given fiber length.

  • Patent number: 5363907
Abstract: A hose assembly suited for delivering viscous material to a dispenser nozzle at a controlled viscosity and temperature. The hose assembly includes a jacketed hose including an outer hose positioned around an inner hose carrying the mastic and defining an annular passage between the inner hose and the outer hose, and a hose cover assembly adapted to be releasably wrapped around a further remote hose carrying the mastic. The cover assembly includes an elongated strip of flexible material including generally parallel opposite longitudinal edges; a plurality of tubes embedded in the strip and running longitudinally through the strip; and coacting interengagable quick release means (such as a zipper) on the opposite longitudinal edges of the strip to enable the strip to be wrapped around the hose and secured in position around the hose by releasable interengagement of the quick release means.
