Abstract: A label activation and application system and method includes a label preparation mechanism for preparing a first label. A feeder supplies a second label. A combiner mechanism combines the first label with the second label to form a combined label. An applicator applies the combined label to a targeted location, if desired. The method results in the formation of a combined label supporting a chemical reaction either upon formation or upon a further activation step. The chemical reaction can serve as an indicator of subsequent exposure of the label to such variables as time, temperature, light, oxidation, and the like.
