  • Patent number: 5340242
Abstract: A toolholder includes a support having an insert seat for receiving a cutting insert. The cutting insert is brought into engagement with a workpiece to remove a chip of metal from the workpiece. The toolholder includes fluid chip-breaking means for directing a stream of high velocity fluid at the chip being removed from the workpiece to break the chip into small segments. The direction of the fluid stream can be adjusted so that a single tool can be used perform a variety of cuts while optimizing the effectiveness of the fluid chip-breaking stream for each cut.

  • Patent number: 5279194
Abstract: A ball lock assembly having a cutting head and a locking component including a lock rod carrying at least one locking member. A positioning assembly operatively connects to the lock rod so that one can move the lock rod between a locked position and an unlocked position. In the locked position the locking member engages the cutting head to hold the cutting head to the locking component. In the unlocked position the locking member does not engage the cutting head so that the cutting head is not held to the locking component.

  • Patent number: 5209146
Abstract: A cutting toolholder assembly for holding a cutting tool used in a material removal operation. The assembly comprises a locking component which contains a bore with at least one recess therein. The assembly also includes a tool holding component with a shank whereby the bore receives the shank. The shank contains a compartment with a locking assembly within the compartment. The locking assembly includes at least one locking member and a positioner assembly that selectively positions the locking member into engagement with its corresponding recess. The recess corresponds to the shape of the locking member such that when the locking member engages the recess, the recess restrains the locking member so that there is essentially no movement between the holder component and the locking component during a material removal operation.

  • Patent number: 4955264
Abstract: The present invention is a tool assembly comprising a tool block and a tool holder capable of delivering chip-breaking fluid to the tool holder without a fixed attachment to the tool holder. The tool block is formed with a tool shank cavity having a tool support surface. The tool holder includes a shank insertable into the tool shank cavity of the tool block. A fluid delivery passage is formed in the tool block which terminate in an outlet opening. A primary fluid passage is formed in the tool holder and terminates in a discharge orifice positioned to direct a fluid jet at the chip being removed from the workpiece. A fluid path provides a path for the flow of chip-breaking fluid from the outlet of the delivery passage to the inlet of the primary fluid passage throughout the entire range of relative movement between the tool block and holder.

  • Patent number: 4604004
Abstract: Disclosed is a cutting tool assembly having a hard, wear resistant insert, a shim and a blade body. The shim has a rearwardly extending recess for receiving the insert. The insert abuts against a top, bottom and rear portion of the shim recess. The shim recess tapers toward the open end of the shim recess to springingly hold the insert. The blade body has a downwardly and rearwardly extending recess on a first end for receiving the shim and insert. The blade body recess is also inclined to the longitudinal axis of the blade body. The blade body recess tapers toward the blade body so as to wedgingly hold the shim and insert.

  • Patent number: 4362445
Abstract: This invention relates to an adjustable floating boring bar cartridge having indexable cutting inserts mounted on it. Two indexable cutting inserts are mounted on a cartridge such that one is held in a fixed position in one lateral face of the cartridge while the other is held in an opposite face of the cartridge such that it can be adjusted laterally inward and outward.

  • Patent number: 4297058
Abstract: This invention relates to an indexable broadnosing cutting insert for use in boring and broadnosing applications, especially where a floating type of boring head is required. This insert, preferably, has a triangular-like shape. Each side of this triangular-like shape actually being made of three angularly related faces: a forward lead clearance face, a middle clearance face and a rear relief face. The forward lead clearance face and the middle clearance face are joined to the top face of the insert by a narrow, vertical wiper face.

  • Patent number: 3999632
Abstract: A power driven rotary tool having a specially constructed bearing ring spacer means adapted to oppose self-induced vibrations. The power driven rotary tool comprises an outer housing frame, a driven rotatable shaft, a set of antifriction bearings disposed between the outer frame and the rotatable shaft for support of the rotatable shaft, a bearing ring spacer means in solid contact with either the outer housing frame or the outer races of the antifriction bearing and between a set of antifriction bearings, longitudinal passageways provided in the bearing ring spacer means and rigid impact elements disposed in the passageway to oppose self-induced vibrations with a power driven rotary tool.

  • Patent number: 3981477
Abstract: A die segment for a briquetting roll in which the roll is a steel body which is provided with a peripheral groove having a radially outwardly facing bottom wall which is made up of planar chordal segments and having side walls at the side edges of the bottom wall with one side wall inclined inwardly in the outward direction and being in the form of an annular segment of a cone concentric with the axis of the roll and the other side wall substantially radial. The die segments are bodies of hard wear resistant material mounted in the groove, one on each chordal section of the bottom wall of the groove and each has one side inclined to fit the inclined wall of the groove with the other side spaced from and diverging from the radial side wall in the outward direction. Wedge bars between the radial side wall of the groove and the opposed sides of the die segments are utilized for clamping the segments in place in the roll.

  • Patent number: 3930529
Abstract: A method and apparatus for removing tread from tires preparatory to retreading of the tires in which a tire is mounted on a support and inflated and rotated on the axis of the tire. The tread is removed from the tire by a cutter disc which has cutting elements mounted thereon in an annular path with the annular path being presented to the periphery of the tire. The cutter disc and tire are moved relatively to cause the annular path of the cutter disc in which the cutting elements are mounted to traverse the tire from side to side and in a single pass across the tire the tread is removed therefrom. The relative movements between the tire and the cutter disc are under the control of a cam so that the proper contour is imparted to the periphery of the tire.
