    Abstract: A respiratory gas monitor for measuring the concentration of certain gases in a respiratory gas stream has a compact and unitary lid assembly having an integral low-profile motor and a cylindrical infrared light beam chopper. The lid assembly also contains a motor position sensor and flex circuit for passing electrical signals through epoxy sealed orifices in the lid to a processing and control unit in the monitor. The flexible circuit uses releasable connectors to facilitate removal of the monitor from an external controller and the removal of the lid assembly from the bottom portion of the monitor.

    Abstract: The disclosed gas analyzer (10) provides two separate folded optical paths (16 and 18) from a single source (12) to a single detector array (14) via a polychromatic filter (26). One optical path (16) passes through a sample gas chamber (24) containing a gas to be analyzed and the other path (18) passes through a reference chamber (30) containing a reference gas. On each optical path (16 or 18), radiation from the source (12) is collected by upstream optics (22 or 28) to form a converging beam (16b, c or 18b, c), thereby reducing or eliminating the need for collection optics at the detector array (14).

    Abstract: An austenitic steel alloy has a composition of about 6 to 13 percent aluminum, 20 to 34 percent manganese, 0.2 to 1.4 percent carbon, 0.4 to 1.3 percent silicon, and the balance essentially iron. The relative quantities of the foregoing elements are selected from these ranges to produce a volume percent of ferrite structure in the alloy in the range of about 1 percent to about 8 percent. The volume percent of ferrite is determined by the empirical formula1<VPF=32+2.6(Al %.+-.0.08)+5.2(Si %.+-.0.03)-1.6 (Mn %.+-.0.16)-8.5 (C %.+-.0.03)<8Excluded from the range of alloys of this invention are alloys of the composition (30.+-.1) % Mn, (9.+-.0.35) % Al, (1.+-.0.05) % Si and (1.+-.0.05) % C, with the balance being iron.

    Abstract: A method of making a foam backed drapery fabric or the like having good textile properties, and the fabric so produced. A wet foam backing is applied to a moving web of fabric, flocking is optionally applied to the wet foam backing, and the backing is at least partially dried without significant curing. The backing is then embossed with a patterned roller, and an aqueous solution containing a release agent and a wetting agent is kiss-coated to the foam backing to penetrate the foam backing without substantial penetration of the fabric, the aqueous solution being applied at about 50 to 80% pickup on dried foam solids weight. Where a curing oven containing rollers is utilized the foam backing is then dried, and then passed to the curing oven. The final fabric has good textile-like feel, softness, drape, abrasion resistance, and appearance characteristics, and the embossed backing is capable of recovering in five seconds to one minute after 3,000 psi has been applied for five minutes.

A conductive polymer adhesive interfaces the conductive mesh with the skin of the patient. In order to promote uniform current density, connection to external apparatus occurs by means of a stranded wire which penetrates the mesh from the top and extends laterally in opposite directions along the electrode, intermediate the mesh and the adhesive.
