  • Patent number: 6234888
Abstract: An apparatus and method is disclosed for uniformly deglazing and finishing flat and arcuate surfaces of transmission and other automotive parts. A tapered part support engages a central opening of parts from different models and manufacturers having different size openings. Smaller parts are held in place without tightening or loosening clamps. Larger parts are simply and easily stabilized by a hold down. Operation of a power tool on the working surface of the parts continually rotates the part and part support with respect to a hand held power finishing tool. Working surfaces are thereby uniformly deglazed and roughened for replacement. High productivity is provided with an inexpensive low maintenance tool that even small shops can afford.

  • Patent number: 4627166
Abstract: A device is provided which can be used to remove washers from bolts in an efficient, fast and safe manner. The device is comprised of a removable blade assembly disposed in a handle device. The blade assembly has an opening permitting the insertion of the bolt such that when the bolt is fully inserted into the blade assembly, the washer is in contact with a plurality of substantially radially disposed blades. The device itself is provided with a handle, in one embodiment knurled, so that it may be held in a persons hand. After the bolt is inserted into the device, the bolt head is tapped using a striking device, such as a hammer. The force of the impact causes the blades to be driven into the washer, splitting the washer into several arc-shaped pieces and separating them from the bolt. The resulting pieces fall away from the bolt when the bolt is removed from the device, or at least then may be very easily removed from the bolt.

  • Patent number: 4617711
Abstract: In automatic transmissions for use in automobiles and other vehicles, the shaft on the forward pump cover is generally sealed with respect to the direct clutch housing by way of split seal rings, each fitting within an appropriate groove on the pump cover shaft. In most transmissions, these seal rings are cast iron rings elastically deformed during assembly and expanding outward in use to locate on and spin with the pump cover shaft. In one specific transmission, these seal rings are Teflon rings which cannot be replaced by cast iron rings, as cast iron rings do not have adequate elasticity to allow compression of the ring sufficient to pass through the direct clutch drum bushing without breaking the ring.
