Abstract: A system typically comprising a garage module that is coupled with a garage door opener and a remote module is disclosed. The remote module and the garage module are coupled for communication therebetween through an AC power grid of an associated building. The remote module includes an indicator that informs the user whether or not an associated garage door has been left open and permits the user to close the garage door using the remote module. Optionally, the system includes accessory modules typically for turning on one or more lamps when the garage door is opened so that a user can enter a lit home and need not fumble to find a light switch. Additionally, the garage module includes laser pointer that activate when a user opens a garage door and provide a convenient visual indicator to assist the user in parking his/her vehicle in a desired location.
